Does anyone know what this insulation is, does it have a specific use? yellow foam with a black tar paper like on outside. The only writing on it is the date. R value per inch? Thanks

Usually with the black stuff on back is polyiso foam. It starts as R6 but as it ages and gasses out it goes down a bit maybe as low as R5.

Yep, looks like polyiso. Standard for commercial low-slope roofing across the US. Slopes are also sometimes done with "tapered" polyiso.

I'll third polyiso. Generally considered R6 per inch. Good stuff.
