I have a rather unique situation. I have a steel framed house with 8 inch c-channel metal floor joists. In the beginning, to support the insulation batts under the floor, I installed the standard metal 16 inch wire push rods, but, of course, they won't dig into metal as they would in wood joists. Over the years, the insulation has been creeping down and the crawlspace down looks like an underground cavern with stalactites hanging from the bottom of the floor joists. Actually, kind of creepy looking!
I've been trying to find some kind of flexible rod that would work like the wire used inside wood joists, but something that would grip the insides of the metal joists. These are solid metal joists (no holes as metal studs would have), otherwise I'd stick something like plastic rod through the holes to "bridge" the batts. Has anyone had the same problem supporting insulation between metal joists? I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks
