Insulation ?

If you insulate your walls and not your ceiling are you wasting your money. I will run a heater while Im in there working in the winter, but it wont be running anytime else. I wont be putting in A/C for a year or two. Garage is 24x36, with a 10 foot room dividing it.

I wouldn't say it's wasted money.

The ceiling you can always insulate after the fact. The walls, you can't insulate easily if they have been covered up.

Having said that, most of the energy loss is through the ceiling.

Blown in insulation is cheap and easy to do yourself. The local places around here rent you the equipment for free if you buy 20 bales of insulation or more.

Since warm air rises, most heat loss is through the roof, so insulating the ceiling is more important than the walls.
Do it all eventually, but for now, do what you can. None of it will ever be wasted.

Insulation is a conservative investment, with a guaranteed tax-free return on investment. If you radiate the floor in your garage, you will lower the heat load presented to the ceiling and your fuel bill at the same time.

When I built or had my 16x24 two story built, I saved enough for the wall and insulation downstairs. I built a non load bearing wall at the end of the garage where the steps were and insulated it as well....Hot of Summer or dead of winter the down is better off with the insulation...in Summer if its 100 out side its about 70 using a 8k air conditioner., I use a propane heater {non vented} and well after being on for about an hour in the winter its easily 75-78 inside when its 30-40 ....I'm sure there is heat loss in the winter but its warm enough inside to work comfy....and during summer I can work well enough....The upstairs is another project for down the road
