I have the opportunity to buy used 4" insulation sheets (4' x 8') for $11 each. The seller says that it is white foam with no type of facing. Is this a deal and is this what I should be looking at to insulate my metal shop?

The shop is 30 x 40 metal building with a cement floor. I am looking to insulate it for the MN winters. I know that I will need to face the insulation with something (OSB, Metal, Etc.)

Ramper, That is a good deal for that foam, and would be pretty good for where I am at and the temps we see, but it seems that people in your area would rather have something with higher R value. Do you have room in your walls and ceiling to add more insulation? I understand about affording spray foam, but like you I need to see what I can afford and be creative at the same time. Still use a good vapor barrier.

Is that enough? I can not afford spray foam

I'd say it's relative to what you want to do in your shop, how long you work out there and how you heat it.

The back wall of my garage has 1 1/2" of white styrofoam covered by 7/16" OSB. It's plenty for me as I heat the garage with a wood burner and have a fire going 2 out of three days.

How will you attach it to the walls to prevent condensation behind it and stop air from just going around it ?

I would say it would be a great deal for under slab if the compressive strength was right, but for walls, I would rather have just 1 inch of closed cell, spray in place foam.
