Question on lighting selection and wiring pros/cons.

30'x40'x12' low pitch roof metal garage to be used sometimes as an auto shop. So I am aiming for close to or above 100fc.

I am down to two selections, and the difference between the two (for me) comes down mostly to wiring...

Choice A - 2' fixtures, 8 in a 4x2 array distributed across the roof, hard wired.

Choice B - 8' fixtures, 24 total in a 4 x 6 array, linkable (easy to wire) up to four in series.

So for choice A, I can see two ways to wire these. One, use the light wiring box as the junction box to wire the next light in the series. Two, have a junction box mounted next to the light and use that to wire to the next light in the series. Either will work, but I am guessing the latter is better practices or maybe even code? Thoughts?

For choice B, I would have six series of lights to wire. I could either use switched plugs on the walls at one end of the garage, or hard wire one end of each series to a common junction box or two. Two boxes would be needed if I wanted to split up the lights on two switches to control light level. They are not 0-10V dimmable like choice A.

To me, choice B should have better horizontal light distribution than choice A. However I do not have a good feel yet about how different the two will be. I do know about the sim software like Dialux.

- Both options would have about the same level of lumens. Choice A is 116K lumens total. Choice B is about 126K lumens total, but will be spread out more (higher up the walls).
- Choice A is lower cost, but will require more wiring work and supplies.
- Choice A is 0-10V dimmable, Choice B is not.
- Walls and ceiling will be white (faced batt insulation). Floor is about 50% metallic, 50% dark grey.
- Choice B could be knocked down to a 4 x 4 array, and the difference in lighting could be made up for with local task lighting at work benches and what not.

WWGJD? What am I overlooking?
