You know, that really is kind of cool. I'm always suprised I don't see more novel designs in tool chests...it isn't like bending a bunch of sheet metal is a hard manufacturing problem, and no doubt you can easily buy beacoup weird components (slides, handles, etc.) if you like. This all sort of begs the question as to why a bigger Mac/Matco/S*** O* box costs more than a new car, the complexity and amount of material isn't even close to being the same.

One of these days I'll wander by one of the local metal places that do casework for high tech companies and see what they think a toolbox is worth in 100's kind of quantity.

Thats either a truck or a job box right?

Gotta keep them kinda cheap because there isn't anything somebody can't steal, but it needs to be strong enough to keep out casual thieves.

That looks very similar to a Plomb tool box I just bought at an estate sale. The Plomb doesn't have the small, removable boxes, but it's otherwise pretty much identical.
