As many of you have followed the thread where BendPak decided to send me a replacement MD-6xp I thought you might find this of interest. Both lift's tags reflect they were manufactured on the same day. The serial numbers are the same too, which was surprising. Despite this, they arrived with different pumps. The first is an Emerson from Illinois, which from the photos I've seen on this site must be commonly used on lifts. The second, which arrived with the replacement is a CSM, which is italian made. The second actually appears to be of heavier construction with a cast housing with cooling fins. The resevoir also has a dipstick which is nice. Any reason to believe one is better than the other? I suppose I could hook up either at this point.

Can't say a thing about the pump itself, but I work in circuit board shop with a whole ton of pumps, motors, conveyer drives etc. Most of the machines come from Europe, with alot of CSM motors. We hava lot of problems with the pumps themselves, gear raduction boxes etc, but the CSM motors seem to be pretty dead reliable, unless they get filled with corrosive chemical which will obviously kill even a Baldor motor.

Probably should have said motor rather than pump. Good point. Glad to hear the CSM's are reliable. Certainly looks stout.

Not uncommon that units made the same day will all have the same serial number. It is more of a manufacturing number to designate the date of production than it is to determine how many are made. I have found that GM also did the same thing with the generators back in the 1960's. There was a model number, and a serial number. If you knew how to decipher the serial number, you could figure out exactly when the generator was made. If they had been numbers sequentially, then there would have been numbers in the millions.
