Though I seem to have a collection of vintage tools, I'm more interested in buying usable tools for my future that are of high quality. This leads me to a garage sale recently where I spy a set of vintage looking compass/ calipers that are bail twined together with 2 sets of pliers type tools and marked just $1. Didn't care what the others were, just wanted those calipers for a buck.
Fast forward to post 4 days of electrolysis.
1) The compass/ Calipers are marked GOODELL PRATT CO, GREENFIELD MASS. According to the Miller falls historical page, they acquired GOODELL PRATT in 1931.
2) The bizarre looking sideways aggressive pac man jaw slip joint pliers are marked (what I can read)
MECHANICS TOOL CO
RENCH PAT FEB
ILL
EDIT: Thanks to CWAZYWABBIT for the below info
The missing lines say
EAGLE CLAW WRENCH PAT FEB 6-1912
ROCKFORD ILL
(apologies that I originally wrote CHICAGO, misread some history .... I think.... grrr, seems it could be either ROCKFORD or CHICAGO http://www.datamp.org/patents/displa...t.php?id=15912 )
3) The nipper type set has only two markings that I can make out in different places on the tool. GERMANY and TEST.
Some interesting stuff for just a buck. I desire to sharpen the points on the compass and put it to use, the others, no clue. Certainly let me know if they are something you collectors need.
