The swap meet was good to me this weekend found some cool stuff. Picked up three Plomb pebble wrenches 1-1/8, 1-1/16, 1. But what I think the best find was is a Kennedy hand carry tool box it measures 32"x8.5x8. It was pretty beat up, top edges bent, rusty, but I bought it for $9.

Has anyone ever seen one like this? I've checked eBay but nothing. I'm in the process of restoration it so pic will follow.

I started cleaning it up, and as I suspected it has a ton of rust a lot under the paint and inside the box. I made up my mind to strip it bare and change the color to red, I have a smaller Kennedy thats red. Hopefully I will have some more photos soon as I progress on it.

looks like the old Kennedy "carpenter" box I remember seeing in their catalog in the 70's

I have a soft spot for a Kennedy too. Not suggesting I'm knowlegable about them though. I was going to say a plumber's box, but carpenter's probably as mentioned. I have not seen that style before. I see a 520 over there too?

Just put together a 3 decker roll around. PO had pressure washed but did not pull the drawer liners out or make any attempt to dry it. Lots of flaking brown krinkle paint.

My dad bought some horizontal carrosel racks to which he mounted babyfood jars for parts bins. Oh the memories.

I need to dig out my granddads Kennedy. Not sure what model it is.

Yep...a "Carpenters box". When I was remodeling apartments, one old guy I was working with has asked me to carry his upstairs in the apartments because he was not able to. Them sombitches holds tons of tools :shocking: No wonder I have back troubles :lol_hitti

Nice old box. I have my grandfather's old square top machinist's chest and it is still going strong.

Wrinkle paint, they used to sell it at most major auto stores. You spray it on and then bake the part to make it wrinkle. This was back in 1980, so they may have improved it or banned it by now!

I has one of those! It is the carpenter's box. The small rectangular knockout near the damaged end can be punched out and used to store a rafter/roofing square. I used one of these boxes when I went to school in the summers I worked for a builder during the summers and we did everything from setting the forms to roofing, to trim work. You are right about the weight, I kept my miter box(before the motorized ones were readily available) in there, saws, hammers and other tools.

As of now this will be my 6th Kennedy box. I was given the 520 model, I've got two hand me downs from my Grandpa an old machinist box and a smaller carry box. I have some texured spray paint, not hammered. I'm Going to try on a piece of scrap metal to see if I can get it closer to the wrinkle finish.
