I'm sorry if this has been covered, but I searched and can't find it anywhere.

This looks like a wood plane blade holder, but it is at the end of a handle on a swinging/tilting head. I thought the tilt would help it cut slightly curved surfaces, but the face is perfectly flat, so I don't think so.
Anyone have any ideas or recognize this?

I am surprised I am having a hard time identifying this! I hate being stumped! hah hah

I found one today at a garage sale around the block. I had to bring it home since it was the first one I’d seen. I didn’t see the Stanley markings until I cleaned off the blade a little.

I didn't come here expecting learn anything. I knew that was a Stanley #70 Box Scraper.

What I didn't know was WHY it was called a "box scraper"!

Y'all are amazing.

Kinda like the box scraper you pull behind a tractor, right? Same shape and all.

There are a couple of different box scrapers out there. Another one is often confused for a scorp, think it's a Sargent or Stearns. Two pull handles, slightly curved blade, etc. if had my score for a decade before I found the catalog image.
