Saturday i needed an E torx socket for some carburetor studs on a 10hp briggs generator i was working on for a customer because of the upcoming storm. Anyway Sears was my only choice because i needed them then, So anyway i went to my nearest on and picked up a 7 pc set for 40 bucks, Pretty steep i thought. But They did the job. I thought id keep them untill i looked at Amazon for a comparison. I found these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I45Y8Q/?tag=atomicindus08-20

And this is the Craftsman set:

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-7-pc...p-00934570000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

Plus this set has a rail that comes with it, And the brand will probably be around just as long as craftsman. So on the good side, Sears got me out of a jam, On the downside Im returning those sockets because for 20 dollars less i get 4 more sockets and have extra money for other tools.

While I agree the Cman set is way overpriced, they saved your ***. I don't see how you can honestly justify returning something you used and did the job. Sometimes you just have to **** it up and pay for convenience, and I'd say this is one of those times.

I would never do that. I've been in the same boat and kept what I bought. It's dishonest. I see people doing the same thing in the Home Depot return line all the time. It's like their private tool rental.

Actually, that set is not overpriced at all. The anytime tools is some no name generic chinese ****, vs a decent US made product.

How long will it be USA made though? Craftsman already offshored allot of their production.

I agree that I wouldn't do that either but Home Depot is far from the top of the list of ethical corporations. I don't feel that bad for them.

I wouldn't worry about that. These are not something you should break. How many sockets do you break?

Keep the ones from craftsman. They are a decent set that is still made in the usa. Take the extra money you had to spend with pride. Your supporting in some way your fellow countryman and in a small part saying "I dont want that **** china garbage in my country" they did what you wanted. Just keep them. good tools cost money. cheep tools dont.

The way I look at it, there are two good things about good tools. First off, when you open your toolbox and see a drawer full of quality tools, you can take pride in your work. it says something about you, that "you put your life into your work, and its not just a hack job"

Second, its probably a higher quality tool. the chicom **** is probably made out of pot metal leftover slag with little or no tolerances. for both metal control or final dimensions. will probably let you down, crack, spread, round off a fastener, and leave you angry and youll have to rebuy anyways. so the cost is nill

you know. i might have to go get that craftsman set. I just bought a toyota that has e-torx screws on it as a more common fastener. never needed them before and this seems to fit the bill. so on the bright side you turned someone onto a sick as hell deal. 34 bucks for 7 pieces of quality USA made steel and chrome. not bad in my book.

Oh thought of something else. the anytime tools, are not chromed. will probably rust. Just sayin

How is this relevant? It justifies you renting a took for free? Come on.

Id kep it if they were a better deal.... Craftsman is commiting suicide anyway there a dying brand, i give sears 2-3 years tops, Its not like my 40 bucks is gonna make or break the company, Plus i bought a nupla deadblow from them on that trip that i will keep.

As for people saying to keep the craftsmans well looking at other threads everyone knows craftsman is low quality. Its already done, the sockets on Amazon are ordered, and the Craftsmans will be returned after the storm.

So you purchased them and are now returning them after using them?? And not based on product dissatisfaction or a quality-control issue...but b/c you've found something that's moderately cheaper??

Just making sure I got that all down correctly. Hopefully I never have to deal with you with anything business related.

I am pretty sure that Sears has the e-torx set but it is not listed on the website.

As much as I hate to say this I agree with everyone else, what you are doing is unethical.

What lie are you going to tell the man at Sears when you take them back?

I hope you grow out of this.

Just gonna say they were the wrong tool. Not a lie just not the truth, they were the wrong tool cause they were expensive for what they are.

Sad thing is, Sears (CRAFTSMAN ) is so good about returns, they wont even ask why, will just give him his money back in good faith , and say, thank you for shopping at sears.

Soooooo............ you bought a USA product, in a pinch, for $40.
You have since found a cheeper set for $20, + shipping ($5.00).
You are going to return a used set of tools to attempt to save 15.
What are you going to waste in gas, and your own time?
Keep the C'man.

You apparently didn't find the price too high when you needed them. Like I said, convenience costs money.

we are not on a "high horse" but you are on a pretty low level....

of course you're right, sometimes the price doesn't reflect the quality / value sometimes, but there is something that's called "the internet", great invention to compare prices / products....and if you need it "right now" then you have to pay the higher price in the store around the corner, that's what they are here for.

I was in the same boat last sunday, but i didn't even think twice, i bought the 1 1/4" wrench at autozone (Duralast) and bought another 32mm wrench (CM) at ACE, i've used the 32mm for one nut (30 seconds) , that's it, but i wouldn't even think about bring it back because i've got my use out of it. Even if i din't use the 1 1/4" wrench will keep it because somewhere along the line i perhaps need it.

Just keep it. The price difference is not that big. Or are you that broke?

Next time your in a pinch you can save some time and gas and order from Amazon and overnight their product instead of scamming a legit tool purchase.

I had to run to HF for a set of E torx when I ran into one on my GF's chevy malibus rear drums. $7.99 and she bought them... Yay free tools

I had to go to sears Sunday and I was going for a flex 17mm socket but of course, as usual, they never have what I need so I had to buy a flex 17mm wrench. Hopefully it will work for what I need. If it does I'll keep it. If does not work for what I need I will return it and get my money back. I feel that doesn't cheat the return system since it may not work for what I need.

You don't have any auto parts stores around you? They all carry some sort of brand of those,so you could have shopped around for the best price. It would have taken the same amount of time seeing you need to go back to Sears to rip them I mean get your money back

Wrong on all accounts, I have amazon prime, which equals free shipping on some items, which includes those, they will be here in two days aswell and i ordered them thismorning. Secondly sears hardware is a five minute drive, the gas is negligible. So im saving 20 bucks, which i can put towards other tools i need for my business. Soooo...... Stop acting like you know everything.

Im not scamming anyone, Id have kept them if the price was close to the other sets. But alas its not.

Secondly im 17, I work 30 hours a week at 8 bucks an hour... paying taxes on that. And thats hard work at a machine shop. In my spare time I do small engine repair, pulling 30 an hour. If you knew me youd know that i have allot of cash going places other than my bank. And every little bit helps. So yeah maybe i am that broke. wanna crucify me cause i want a good deal?

No one is crucifying you because you got a good deal. They are stating their opinions, which I find to be pretty good ones. Wait until someone comes to your small engine shop, asks you to do something, then after you do it, tell you they found somewhere cheaper and to take your stuff off. Then you'll understand what everyone is saying. It's not right to use people, you're young and haven't experienced everything, but what goes around comes around...

Those that are ethical tend to be very happy. They don't have to go through life trying to justify dishonest and deplorable behavior.

The fact that you choose to place "ethical" in quotes says it all.

All I can say is that I hope that everyone who ever deals with you treats you in the same manner that you display here... cuz there's apparently nothing wrong with such behavior.

Good luck man... you'll need it.

Cut the guy some slack. I'm sure everyone is guilty of doing that once or twice. I admit, years back when I was 17, money was very very tight and I needed a dwell meter to set my points. So I bought one. And yes, you guessed it, I took it back saying that I was just going to have a mechanic do the work when they asked for the reason.
