Interesting ratchet

This is part of a collection I picked up from a locomotive plant that closed down.

It's a '24" Keystone' by The Keystone Mfg. Co. Buffalo, NY. There is a small cap at the end of the long handle that reverses directions.

All I've been able to find is some catalog pages referring to it as a Giant Railroad Track Ratchet.

It looks like someone has grafted on a dedicated 1" drive socket for their own purposes -- a number of the tools from this place were like that.

Anyway, it drew a little attention in my other post, so I'm sharing what I have! If anyone can explain why it has this top to it, I'd be interested to hear.

Not sure which top you are referring to. The handle had a lug or key inside the round end. It engages with the notches on the shank of the driver. You put the female square drive over a male square pin that you want to turn or tighten and heave. You then unscrew the knurled collar and slip the handle out of the notch and rotate it back to another notch, push it back in and screw the knurled piece in place to retain it and take another heave at it.

That's the "Large Scale Wall". 1" drives, 24" and 36" pipe wrenches, etc. That Snap-On Torqometer is standing on the floor, it's 5' tall.

Still waiting to frame in a new 48x60 window on the left wall, it'll look a little better once the slatwall's up there, too.

Still waiting to frame in a new 48x60 window on the left wall, it'll look a little better once the slatwall's up there, too.

Very surprised, you have a pipe wrench the same as mine, your largest one. and the huge SO torque wrench with the dial read, I have one almost identical myself!
