First patented by H.D. Smith and marketed as the "Perfect Handle" screwdriver. They used the same design on other tools, including a ball-pein hammer, monkey wrenches, etc.
That one might be homemade, as I don’t think I have seen any with a hex or octagon shape. I have one of the big fat square shaft ones, and one with ears somewhere, but no hex.
Not in Smith, Irwin or Made in Germany that I have seen.
Thank for info. I looked and did not see any makers names or marks on it. It is pretty crude but it s beefier than an Chinese made screw driver I have ever seen. There are lots of nicks and marks from use all over it. Just thought it was a neat looking older screw driver.
I've got a rusty old no- name one around here somewhere. Lee Valley was selling an import version until a few years ago as well. Don't think I've seen a hex shank one yet in the flesh.
