I have used and owned some tools with built in lights over the years and while they have their place, they have limits too. While looking for something on the Knipex website, I ran across this little magnetic LED light that you can put on your pliers to illuminate the area you're working on. Knipex part number is 00 11 V50 and according to a google search it sells for about $15. A bit pricey for what it is. While the batteries should last a long time my one complaint is that it uses CR1220 cells instead of something more common (at least common to me like the A76 button cell, or 2032) Just replacing the batteries will cost $4-5 or more.
Update: Looks like there are others out there. Here's one in the UK that is set up to attach to screwdrivers and perhaps would work with socket extensions too. According to the description, the leds light when it is magnetically attached.
