I found the most interesting part was when they tested the locktite and at first found out that it actually lowered the amount of bolt tension applied. It was a long expired bottle(2017 IIRC) so they bought a fresh bottle and the bolt tension and applied torque was bang on.

I really wasn’t expecting that and has me now looking to pick up some fresh locktite. I’m bad for not replacing it when expired. Current bottles are 2020-23 expiry.

I think honestly the thing I took away the most from that video was that those digital adapters are decent enough for most applications.

HF sells them under the Quinn line. I'll probably pick a couple up.

Loctite marketing.......research shows most users have 10 year old Loctite instead of buying new product .......get the PR agency to post a YT showing how bad this is.

What's the chance that the threadlocker separated in the bottle? I'd be curious is trying to vigorously mix it would make a difference.

Id think Ive got some 40 year old Loctite in the oval bottles ....maybe 2oz?...............anyhoo,when I was using it regularly,I would add a glass ball or bead to the contents so I could shake it up.

Me too. I expected Locktite to act like a lubricant, albeit not a great one. When the expired bottle lowered torque, I was very surprised. Even the fresh bottle resulting in no change was a surprise.

Also, the tests seem to generally show that click-type torque wrenches are more robust than you might expect and tolerate quite a lot before getting wildly out of whack. Certain tests showed mild effects, but generally still within the stated tolerance range.

Who hasn't dropped or bumped a torque wrench, left it in the garage when temps dip below freezing or realized you forgot to unwind it last time? Not me.

The German assembly instructions for the hydrostatic pumps & motors we build have a slightly higher torque spec for fasteners with loctite vs those without.

Biggest surprise of the whole video for me, really wasn’t expecting that.

I wonder if they formulate in some kind of friction material to keep the counter the lubrication of the liquid but as it gets old the friction material “sets up” and makes it work “too good”.

That's a good theory. Similarly, I wondered if it contained something abrasive as part of how it works to keep things from loosening.
