Many years ago I had an uncle who was a retired Dupont engineer, he & my aunt very nice, he was very funny (Groucho Marx). Chain smoked cigars, passed many years ago at 96.
His shop workbench was always clean. As a kid I asked how? What he did was all tools were suspended from ceiling by fishing line...up to a pulley, across to other wall, pulleys, then down to lead fishing weights.
Whatever he worked on he would pull pliers, screwdriver down, release and it would go back up to ceiling.
As a kid I thought that was pretty ingenious.
