Interior Door Closer

I'm looking for a door closer for an interior closet door. The door is "hollow-core (not a super heavy door)".

This door is to our pantry.

I'm shopping for something that can be mounted at the top of the door. Ideally it would have some sort of method to disengage so the door would remain open.

Assuming hinge door vs pocket/folding...if so spring loaded hinges will do the job

Ryobi at the box store. Has a hold open feature and can be adjusted as to closure speeds which is sometime necessary to get the door to latch. If you don't need an actual latch since you have a closer, get rid of it.

I've installed a few of these cheap ones and more of the more commercial in offices, etc. Each time I have to read the instructions. IIRC, most are made to mount on the side of your choice (or sometimes because of interference), but some come dedicated to how they have to be mounted. Something to consider when buying.

There is also the pneumatic screen door closer. They are pretty cheaply made and don't always work well. Millions in use. Spring loaded hinges just slam the door and have no hold open feature. They also get weaker as the door closes. Not much chance of latching unless you really put some tension on it. Some kind of bumper is advised with those. I like silicone bulb weatherstripping to soften the slam.

I have the Ryobi unit. Been working great for over 25 years.
