Interior metal walls NEED trim piece at bottom

Hey guys. Metal pole building is done and I did white metal for the interior walls. The guy who did it said that sometimes the concrete floors aren’t 100% level everywhere in the shop, so he always orders the metal an inch or so short, all the way around. Just so there wouldn’t be any pieces that didn’t fit.

Anyways, where the metal comes to the floor, it’s about an inch or so short. So you can see the bottom wood piece. Do they make a molded piece of trim that just goes right over top of the metal for this? Like a piece of trim that was 2-4 inches tall and had the same contours in it as the metal so it just fits right over top? I don’t think the normal J channel stuff would be tall enough to cover the gap. Hope that makes sense. Pics attached.

I would just paint it. Its too bad that your contractor did that to you. At the same time you might have not liked their price if they had to cut and fit each sheet.

There's supposed to be a metal piece installed before the panels go up. It's called a rat guard.

J-channel works, but the rat guard doesn't collect dirt/garbage like j-channel does.

J Channel all day. Problem is the metal panels are already up and 2 short and I've never seen a channel that big. At this point I'd leave it and start piling stuff up so it won't be visible anyway.

Until I saw this post, I would have unfastened the bottom and slid a strip of painted roof flashing to cover that up. Now I'd look for rat guard.

You could make your own "J -channel" Out of some wood. Furring strip on the back side to take up the height / thickness of the gap, and some 1X to bake a basic base molding? Could even use Azek so you dont have to paint and could plug the holes with the trim kit.

If you don't want to shove somethin gup behind the panels you can just get flat pieces of flashing with a hem to make it nice and screw them to the panels. or see if the place you got your metal from can make you some short pieces like 12" or less and you can extend your panels down a bit.

On an as needed basis
I just found out my local siding supplier will custom bend trim to any profile/dimensions desired.
I needed some J channel a specific size they charged me $7 per 10' 4" piece.

I'm with csp on this one. I've am about to install the same metal panels that are only 3' tall as wainscoting in my shop. Mine are going to the floor and I'll probably caulk them for fire reasons but if I had your issue, I don't think I'd go with j channel.

I just bought some j channel from menards and its just a 1" lip that will collect all kinds of **** imo.

If you are really ocd you could probably call menards and ask them what the price is on 6" x whatever wide white panels would be. They will cut it any size you want, same with barn panel supply shops. Just unfasten the bottom row or two of screws and you could probably slide it under and reinstall the screws in the same place. ***** to have to go through that but we've all been there with something...

damn I didn't think of that, otherwise I would have done exactly that instead of the j channel I ordered from menards... Oh well, to late for me and I'm not sure molded j channel would work for the OP. Unless I'm envisioning it wrong, he would still have the gap at the bottom, no?

I'd probably use some white flashing and J-channel to completely cover the gap.

I would agree with this if the bottom of the panels were even, he will either need to cut the bottom sheets so they are even or use something that will flex where it meets the floor.
