I have a 2x4 interior wall that will separate my shop into two spaces, one heated and one not. I plan to use closed cell spray foam insulation on the exterior wall up to this interior wall, and then foam this inside wall to create my insulated area.

My question is on what side of the wall should the insulation go? I don't plan on finishing the "unheated" side, so I'm inclined to just put OSB on the heated side of the wall and spray from the outside in, so that I only need OSB for the finished side only. However, I feel like this is backwards, the foam insulation would show on the unheated side.

Does it really matter? Or should I just plan on putting the OSB on both sides, putting the OSB on the unheated side first so that the insulation can be sprayed up against it, and then finish the inside wall.

I am not an insulation Engineer, but seems to me to not matter.

Foam is sooo spendy, I would just OSB or whatever interior finish your finished side, and Fiberglass batt the wall, exposed on other side.

That is what I plan to do to "divide" my shop.

And, I study this stuff pretty good. Marc

So the foam will be left exposed on one side and not covered with OSB or drywall?

If I have that right I would cover the foam on the working side to prevent sparks or whatever from contacting the foam.
