I'm building a new house with a three car garage and need ideas on interior wall materials. I was thinking about using sheetrock walls with orange peel texture if I could find a great paint that would be rugged and somewhat washable or at least damp cloth washable. Any ideas?

If you want washable then you want a semi-gloss....its the most washable....exterior of course

I'm doing just what you said. Sheetrock then a light "knocked down" texture and semi-gloss paint.

Gloss would be better, but would show imperfections in the sheetrock. I still might try full gloss, more light, more durable, more "cleanable"

Then in some areas I might do galvanized sheet 4ft tall. That's as durable as you can get.

In my old shop, I put 2 heavy coats of Porter premium exterior gloss on the sheetrock walls around my dirty work area, (engine teardowns and ****** work, with a sand blast cabinet in the corner) over hopper gun spray texture orange peel. I added a biocide (mildew stopper) to the texture, the sealer and both coats of paint 'cause I live in the swamp. (the shop dawg molds if he don't keep moving)
when it got nasty, I sponge mopped it with simple green and it looked brand new.
The new shop will get the same paint, over hardi-board siding, bonded to the sealed block, and I'm adding FRP panels (shower board) 4 feet up from the baseboard, to stop the back edge of my rolling workbenches from scraping up the walls, call it a lesson learned. LOL RED

Use a paint for baths or kitchens, Lowes has a store brand labled "Kitchen and Bath"
Good stuff, I have used it before. Nice gloss and cleans well without removing any paint while wiping like flats or semi-gloss can
