I need some painting done and was wandering what the average price for painting a room is? It would need 2 coats and its over flat white and the room is roughly 18x20. Is there a basic price or is it by the square footage?

I am always leary of people that charge by the hours. Too easy to drag their bottoms and costing you way too much in the end. $350 for that room sounds fair depending on windows and doors.

Is that including materials? I already have the paint I just need it applied. I agree with paying someone by the hour to do it, Ive learned my lesson on that before.

A friend just got 3 quotes to get his condo painted. All painters were given the same specs. Prices were from $2300, $5000, and just over $11,000.

Although I hate to do it, with anything that is that much of a labor component, you have to get multiple quotes. Heck, I just had some plumbing done and the two quotes I got were close to $3000 apart-and quite honestly, the lower guy seemed more knowledgeable than the higher one.

Residential is $3+/- sq/ft. Pretty tough to charge a sq/ft tho when its one room and not multiple.

Hopefully that's not $3/square foot of painted surface, that's per square foot of floor? At $3, my 10'x50' wall would be $1500. Sounds OK if that included drywall and electrical!

My painter just painted our house (2900) sq ft.

He did the entire house for $2000.

I was able to pick as many colors as I wanted. Although we only did a few.

Two coats with sherwin williams.

Yes, a foot. My bad. Tho, it would be nice if painters were appreciated enough to charge so much a sq/ft. Lol.

In most cases you will get what you pay for. Tho sometimes you may get thrown a bone and find a guy does good work for cheap.

Tone, is that trim and all?

Sorry, not trying to be an *** or anything, but, I can't believe the amount of stuff that people pay to have done anymore. Is there anybody that does things themselves ?

For what you pay somebody to do it, you can pay for all your paint, brushes, rollers, tape and even a decent 6' step ladder.

I'm all for DIY too, but I think everyone has stuff they're not confident doing, can't physically do, or just don't have the time to get done. For instance, I paint but I long ago decided that plumbing and I don't get along. It's worth it to me to write the check to hire a pro whose work won't leak (like mine has) when he's done. And even though I do painting myself, some rooms have come out better than others. Yeah, it looks easy, but there are numerous ways to screw up a paint job. Hire a good painter, and he has the skill or knowledge that make the job look good in the end.

I'm not allowed to paint interior walls. I have never gotten the hang of it which is strange because my dad and uncles all bought their first houses by painting houses after work. This was before there was much aluminun siding around. When my wife wants a room painted she calls my dad and cooks a big batch of barbeque ribs. I don't mind because I still get some ribs. lol. On the other hand that is the only thing around the house I don't do.

I wouldnt pay to have just one room painted. Just make it a weekend project. However, I would pay to have an entire house painted all at once if needed.

When we first moved into our house, I had it painted. To me it wasnt worth my time (weeks probably) to paint it all by myself.

Im sure alot of folks have their limits as to what their time is worth.

I dont think there is one person that does everything in their life themselves. To ha ve the attitude that its stupid or less justified to pay someone to do something for them is ridiculous.

I pay McDonalds to make my chicken nuggets because I dont raise chicken.
