Interlocking Plastic Mats (not garage floor tiles)

I’ve been Googling myself to death, but just can’t seem to find what I’m looking for, but I’m sure I’m just not using the right search terms or something...

When I was in the Army (in Australia, back in the 80’s) we used these interlocking plastic mats that were roughly 24”-30” square... we used them extensively in the field for tent flooring, walkways, shower floors etc. they were sturdy, lightweight and would conform well to relatively uneven ground, and they had a square holes and non slip surface so they provided a good working surface over mud, sand or dusty environments... and they could be installed and uninstalled quickly.

I imagine they’d be used extensively in emergency relief and even useful for things like party supplies... but do think I can find them online anywhere? (Ideally in Los Angeles)

Anyone got any ideas???

Something on the above site fit you need? There are hundreds of uses of these type of mats, from the baby nursery to the shop floor. What is your intended use or criterion for selection? Material, durometer, chemical resistance, or...?

Thanks for the link... I don’t see anything there that works... most are designed to go over flat floors/surfaces... the only ones that look close are 12”x12” which would be too small to spread load on uneven ground.

I need to temporarily move some gear out of my workshop, so I’m setting up one of those 12x20 portable carport/garages... but the area I’m putting it has these awful 6”x6” block pavers with a 3/4” gap that’s 1/2” deep. (It’s the most impractical surface I’ve ever seen... don’t know what they were thinking!)

Anyhow, one option is to lay pressure treated 2x4 under 3/4” ply, but it’s a lot of effort for what is likely just a couple of months.

The interlocking mats I’m looking for would create a less solid floor, but would be much more flexible and have a lot more future use for parties, camping etc... so I thought they would be an ideal solution... if Only I could find them!

Not exactly what you’re describing, but you could use horse stall mats for a decent storage floor. Tractor Supply Co. near me always has a stack of 4’ x 6’ x 3/4” smooth face, but they’re available in coin or diamond tread patterns and smaller sizes.

They’re heavy, so not very portable for camping, but pretty beefy. I use one as a cargo mat in the back of my 68 Suburban; dragging axles and parts across it for 10 years and it’s still in great shape.

Thanks... yeah, they would be pretty heavy, so not so easy for practical repurposing... based on the Tractor Supply price, they’d be a little less than a ply floor, but I don’t have TS close by, so I’d need to find a local supplier or add freight... on balance, the ply floor would be a better solution at that cost.

Call your local Sunbelt rentals and rent a few sheets of Dura-Deck. They're usually 4x8 and interconnect at the edges.

Thanks... a couple of interesting options here, though I suspect not as “utility” as what we used back then. The option I was looking for would be lower cost, but maybe not as “elegant” as the party/event floor systems, and not as strong as the road base systems. I guess there was no market for something in the middle!

Thanks... these look closest to what I was looking for, though the Fastdeck looked a little rigid and designed for good flat surfaces...

The Bikedeck 1” looks like the modern equivalent of what we used in the ‘80’s but I suspect it’s going to be pretty pricey!

I ended up laying 2x4 under OSB sheets and it’s a good solution for now. Though not as useful once I’m done with this application... I can always sell them later.
