What does this mean on the Sears website?
Is the tool on clearance (spencerian gets giddy...:bounce:).

I was told this particular item was clearanced at Home Depot.

Usually it does mean an item is on clearance. Don't know what it means though. Might technically mean that if it's currently at 50% off it was once at 25% off. I usually take it to mean "this has already been clearanced out at all Sears locations near you, or are available for much cheaper and if you don't hurry it'll be gone soon."

I always thought it meant that Sears was getting rid of the tool and was going to continue to reduce its price until they were all gone.

If it's on the website it does not mean a thing since the order will probably get cancelled anyway.

Not true. I was at Sears about two months ago and wanted to get some 80th anniversary plier sets. They were at 75% off a month prior to that. Although there were like 8 sets of the plier sets on the shelf, the employees wouldn't/couldn't sell them to me. The items were taken out of the system and thus destined for salvage. I was told that salvage could just mean that they go back to the factor for repackaging or distribution through a difference channel.

So no, Sears won't continue to reduce a price until it's gone. They do have some limits.

It means the same there as any other retailer.

You have the "list" price, the "everyday" price and the "sale" price.

One store had a brand of jeans at the "lowest price of the year". That was a whole $1 less than the normal price.

If the item you want normally sells for $100, and it is advertised at 75% off, that doesn't always mean that it is now selling for $25.

"Clearance" doesn't always mean a price cut, either.

Items on clearance go to "zero" on the register; they "technically" cannot be sold then and have to be "RTV'd" (returned to vendor) for credit. This is what I have been told (I have had to take them off the floor); they are packed up and shipped out to whoever made them, AFAIK.

Bosch has been losing market share due to falsely branding those same 10.8v tools as 12v by other vendors.

One of the guys on a woodworking board I visit, has already seen one of Bosch's new branded 12 v versions in a Lowe's.

It is the same BS as those 6hp shop vac's.
