Guys, looking at putting a couple of these together within a custom made frame and possibly a wood top to use as a workbench. I've been torn between these International boxes and the 44.5" HF model. I did the price calculations and it comes out to be just north of $1000 w/tax and free shipping if I order these on Cyber Monday. For those that have this model...is this the model that's made in Canada? I'd gladly pay an extra $200 for these when you consider the finish looks better and they're not Chinese-made. Does any one have a beat on a coupon I can use at Sears tomorrow to take another $100-$200 off? If I can get these for $800-$900 shipped w/tax I'll feel pretty good! Thanks.

I just bought a International 42"...I am really happy with it so far. I feel its about the same quality of as the HF box but has a nicer paint job. I got mine from Sears.com and had some issues getting it from them (took way to long.) Mine has a "made in Canada" sticker right on the front of it. Here are a few pics.

After I posted this I did a search and came across your thread. I actually like the finish on the International and love the fact that it's not made in China. My main concerns are that it's very light. About half the weight as the comparable HF box. The depth also appears to be less than the HF model and the thickness in the steel also concerns me. Where these factors when you made your decision?

No, not really. I am a DIY'er and needed something better then a Craftsman tin box. It's way stronger then Craftsman and higher quality. I was going from a old Craftsman steel-glide box. What are you going to use it for? Either one of these (Inter./HF) are no Snap-on boxes! I didn't need or want a box that that is that heavy(harder to move around my shop.) Plus, I don't think because the HF box is heavier it is better quality...just me though. When it came down to it...I don't like HF's business practicies and didn't want to support them with anything high priced...plus, this was cheaper through Sears and made in Canada. The box I have is the same box with less drawers then the ones on Amazon.com that sell for $700 plus (less drawers, cheaper they are.) The HF boxes are VERY popular with lots of guys on this forum and you can't go wrong with it. I just didn't want to support a company that uses Walmart style tactics and wanted to try something different. Do a search in google.ca for International boxes(more reviews)..everything I found there was positive. Its comes down to you and what will work best for what you want it to do. Good luck!

Just noticed that the price on Sears.com is WAY higher then what I paid. It shows $539 right now. I paid $380w/tax!

I'm also a DIY'er...not a professional by any means. I tinker in gunsmithing and the like....not much beyond that aside from changing out my cars' brakes, coolant flushes, etc. So I don't need (or want) a SO, Matco, or Cornwell box. I just want something that is sturdier than the typical Craftsman tin box but "prettier" than the HF box. Also, not made in China is a huge plus. What I would end up doing is building a frame (much like what SteveO did on this forum under General Garage Discussion) and then throw a 1-3/4" wood plank on top.

Yeah, $539 is about what I'm seeing them for. However, I failed to mention that I have 5 $100 Sears gift cards and there's free shipping on all International boxes. Also, they're on sale for Cyber Monday so with the Cyber Monday discount, they come to $485.99 before tax.

Yeah the specs on it are still preventing me from just pulling the trigger on them. 150lbs per cabinet just seems flimsy to me? I mean International's 75" cabinet only weighs in at 460lbs. The 42" HF model weight 100lbs more than the International 75" model!! How can that be?

I think the harbor freight specs are not right, the 45" in black is listed around 300lbs while the red one is listed at over 600lbs. For some reason I don't think red paint weighs 300lbs…

Haha, point taken.

Is the black model the same as the red model in just a different color?

They look the same and have the same specs, but the red one is on sale for quite a bit cheaper.

Check amazon .com I just bought a international 10 drawer top for 445w/ free ship

Link?
All the 42" 9 drawer International cabinets are $700+ from what I can see.

EDIT: Never mind, I just saw that you posted the 10 drawer. I'm looking for the 9 drawer and it doesn't look like they have those for that cheap of a price.

Pulled the trigger on them. $1035 with tax and shipping. Of course, they don't tell you that it'll take a month to arrive until AFTER you've checked out. Soulless bastards.

I'm going to go ahead and get started on the workbench frame that these will slide into. kippieland, any chance you could be so kind as to do exact measurements for me? Total width, height, and depth? I'll be taking the casters off so if you could measure just the box for me, I'd really appreciate it!!

I have this same cabinet with an earlier matching top box on it. I also have a gray end cabinet hanging on the side. I have a frame I welded together underneath it fitted with a 1200lb caster at each corner. Mine is pretty loaded with tools with no problems. I got mine at TSC on clearance for $299

You ****! It was a ballmy 43 today with a low of 25....which will soon be our high:sad:

Bummer. My grandpa used to live in Bremerton...and when I was a kid I used to go up to Washington in the summers. Boy did it get hot in the summer. Even worse, whenever I went up there, the Sound was full of jellyfish infestations so you couldn't even go swimming.

My new cabinets arrived today. Can't wait to get home and open the boxes!!

So I paid $485.99 per box. Came out to $1046.46 for both with tax. I noticed on the Sears website that they've reduced the price to $397.57 per box. I called Sears up and they refunded me the difference of $185.70. So I ended up getting both boxes for $860.76!!

In case anyone is interested in the box. Comes with free shipping.

What method did they arrive, and were you required to be present when they delivered them or did they just "drop and run"?

Mine came freight using Roadrunner Freight. Both came strapped onto 1 pallet and my wife HAD to be there to sign for it. He would not drop it off even though the dispatch lady said it would be ok for me to leave a note. I'm not home from work yet so I'm not 100% sure what they look like...just what my wife told me so far.

$400 is a good price for them I would pay that. Only thing I would like about their boxes to include is something like a grip latch. If they had that they would be better than the Harbor Freight one. Either way a good box for the money in my opinion.

Mine was shipped through a freight company. I had to schedule the delivery which meant...where in your are at this so you better be...and yes I had to be there.

I went to a local industrial outfit that sells S-K tool. They also sell the higher model International boxes...they are super sick and kill anything at HF! But they cost WAY WAY more then the boxes we are talking about. He said International use to make the boxes for S-K before they filed. They liked them so much they decided just to carry International boxes.

Yep, apparently the "Pro" line is/was rebadged for both SK and Wright, maybe others too. It has the "grip latch" style handles, according to International's site.

Then there's the SHD line above that, also "grip latch"-ified.

It could be a problem if they're just going to call and say "Hey, we're on the way". I work a long way from home.
:headscrat
I could probably get a day off if they would schedule delivery at least a few days in advance tho.

Yeah the drawers kind of bug me. It takes some force to open and close them. I see significant "shifting" of tools in the drawers when I open and close them.

Stoked by the fact that they're made in Canada. Bummed by the drawers. Also bummed by the fact that it was missing one of the drawer liners. Oh well, not crazy about the foam liners anyway...I might stop at Sears and pick up the sticky kind instead.

Definitely not as good quality as my 42" Hammerhead but well worth the money. Now onto building my steel workbench frame that these will fit into.

I agree with you on the tool moving but I was HF and their boxes are the same. Since I don't move mine around the shop much, I tend not push the drawers all the way locked. I think for this level of box there will aways be little things that bug!
