Vette,
I don't have that particular box but the 73", 21 drawer Super Heavy Duty series. So this may be more of a compare and contrast review rather than specific information you are requesting.
Looking at the catalog the metal is the same thickness but the SHD series is about 4" taller, has spring casters, heavier reinforcment for a more rough duy environment, 6 extra drawers, and an aluminum covered MDF top. That may account for the 300 lb weight difference between the two.
I am very happy with mine, it holds my tools just as well as the SO and Matco boxes the other guys have. Not bagging on the tool truck brands but I wanted to spend money on tools rather than something to hold them. Definitely not on par with either SO or Matco, but much better than others I looked at and own.
Thought the drawers were a little weak at first but the more I loaded them the better they feel. I have an old C-man box and two different HF ones and the drawers have a much better feel than either of those. I have over 350 sockets plus assorted other **** in my top drawer and it is very easy to open and close. One of the wrench drawers holds 20 or so SAE wrenches from 1/4 to 1 1/2, again nice and smooth.
As mentioned mine came with a top It looks like a top is optional for the Tech series.
The drawer liners leave a lot to be desired. They seem grippy to the touch but tools will slide to the back if closed too vigorously. Not slamming it shut just really positive closing. Actually, over time, the tools walk even with normal closing.
They both have gloss powder coat finish and mine was smooth and flawless. I spilled some PVC cement on mine and it took the gloss off. Kind of looks smudged but not too bad. Just have to avoid focusing too closely on the spot or my OCD kicks in. I got some wierd looks from a guy the first time I whipped out the spray wax and wiped it all down. But I get that look from him daily.
The aluminum drawer handles do show grease/dirt and mine are brushed so the grease/dirt can get in there. They wipe clean but sometimes I have to use a little brake cleaner, WD40, silicone spray whatever is handy, to get it out of the brushed aluminum.
All I had to put together were the handles and the plastic end caps on the drawer handles. Mine has locking drawers with a little lift bar under the handle to unlock. In the catalog the Tech series doesn't specifically show these, so it may have detent locks.
If it is shipped like mine it will be loaded on a pallet that keeps the casters off the ground. Mine was also boxed in a chipboard crate. Not going to stop a fork lift fork from stabbing it but better than cardboard. For some reason I think it was also wrapped in plastic under the wood. Mine had a little ding (yes a fork lift fork) from either the shipper or Home Depot, I bought mine through them, a little higher on the price, but shipping was free and they loaded it on the trailer for me. I also had plenty of time to look it over beforehand. You will need lift gate service if you don't have a loading ramp or some other means to unload it from the truck. As far as I could tell these are shipped as freight. Lift gate fees ranged from $80-$120 when I was looking. Just depended on the seller.
From my research, I don't think this the same as QCI that was mentioned. The International brand is owned by SPG International and according to the 2015 catalog, they say they manufacture their own boxes. The SHD and Tech series show to be made in Canada as seen by the "Made in Canada" maple leaf logo on the catalog pages. That is the 2015 catalog so things may have changed.
They have two other series, Pro and Value, that, more than likely, are made in China as they don't show the maple leaf logo. That and they say they became part of the Greelong Sales Company in 07 which has manufacturing facilities in China. So I am assuming those two are made there. Price of these two would also support that assumption.
Good luck and hope all that rambling helps.
