The review:

The box had a few small dings no more than 1" in diameter, nothing worth returning it for, and they could probably be dollied in about 30 seconds, but I just don't care.

The finish is very good, I tried scraping it off inside the cabinet, and it's stuck well.

All drawer's come with a 1/4" thick foam rubber mat in them, cut perfectly. The top has 1/4" particle board base with a 1/4" thick foam rubber mat on top, also cut perfectly.

It has 6 wheels, with the semi-soft tread on them (very nice, I was going to junk the wheels and switch it to this, I had no clue it had them), with two of the step down cam brakes on two wheels (the kind that clamps on the rubber of the wheel itself, not the cam one on the bolt for the wheel) that grab very nicely.

The ball bearing slides work great, they seemed a little stiff, but got better with weight, and just a few openings. The deep drawer uses 4 slides, as an added bonus.

The full length top drawer has two stiffeners in the bottom that run front to back, which keeps the drawer bottom from popping down when it opens. It also has a center slide on the bottom. My craftsman pro has none of this (just a roller in the center) and the drawer bottom oil cans when you open and close it. I wish International put the stiffeners under the drawer instead of inside, but prefer having it this way over none at all.

It has two locks (the good cylinder kind), so you can unlock just one side of drawers if you want (both needed for the top drawer). The locking system is pretty heavy duty.

It's STURDY. This thing is freaking heavy. It also came with the wheels already on, just had to bolt the handle on and go. It was shipped sitting on upright 2x8's to keep the wheels off the ground.

It came with labels and a plastic cover you can slide into each drawer handle to label them if you want to, and 4 keys.

Here's my take: It's worthy EVERY penny. I would rate it better than a standard craftsman box, and as good as a craftsman pro (I have one, so this isn't just a "guess"), with the one exception that the drawers are the ones that close with a detent, not a grip latch system. That's the only area I see this box "lacking" in any way, shape, or form. It's not a big deal, I just like grip latches better since you don't have to push or pull on the drawer as hard.

My only other gripe was drawer height, although I quickly found out I needed deeper drawers than I thought I did, so it worked out well.

You can consider me one VERY happy person. I can't wait to buy the matching chest for the top of it. I won't spend a penny on another Craftsman box, I guarantee that.

You purchased one of the better quality International boxes, they have a cheaper line that is not near the quality. Nice tool box.

I got it on ebay from qualitytoolsforless. They have a website with the same name, but they cost more on the website than ebay, for some reason. That's a buy it now price, too.

Sweet. Thanks for the thorough review... I've been wanting to get a larger rollaround, but due to budget constraints, I'd been looking at large chests to accompany my current small rollaround and chest.
This certainly changes all that. :)

I got the same response from the seller above and another seller with the same box. If it was canadian made I'd buy it, but I'm not putting my usa tools in a china box.

sticky if you read my post i told you international does make some usa stuff just not most of it. if i had to guess id say another company makes all of the stuf under the international name and not neccessarily just one company. more tham likely international has stuff made to their specs or is simply rebranding merchandise

I understand what you're saying, but they do not have a 24" deep top and bottom box that is made anywhere other than China.

*shrug* doesn't bug me. I prefer us made, but I sure won't pay for snap-on. I'll be buying another international box soon.

How is that holding up for you? Do the drawers have any sag to them when loaded? How much weight do you think you have in each drawer & what is the load limit on them? I have been back & forth on this box vs the torin but will probably get the top part also to make it a one time thing.

I wonder why the stiffener is on the inside of the drawer and not underneath. I would think it wrinkles the liner and long items would not sit flat.

Is this a problem?

No sag, they work fine. I have no clue how much weight I have in them, one is filled with wrenches, one with sockets, one with air tools. I don't think extra weight would bother it.

Weight
359 lbs.
Storage Cabacity: 21575 cubic inches
Load Rating: 983 lbs.

This should help you. It's rated less than my craftsman pro, but I don't see it being weaker, personally.

Maybe the chinese box already broke :D just kidding.

It'll last me a lifetime.

I talked about this in the beginning. I would prefer it to be underneath, but prefer having it inside as opposed to not at all. All full length top drawer boxes I've seen sag without something like that. I have my foam wrench holders in there, so it wasn't a problem at all for me to work around/over them. Wrinkle the liner? It leaves a line in it I guess, but it's a toolbox, not $30/yd. carpet.

A little off topic here but I bought the 41" set from Harbour freight and I really like it. I got it cheap with coupons. Now for comparison at work we just got a snapon box and man, I would not want that box at all considering price. My 25 year old SO box is much more box than this new one. In fact the new one is built much like the harbour freight box. Evidentally SO has a cheap line of boxes but charge SO prices for them.

In the process of looking for a box and keep coming back to this International, was only planning on the bottom box but these things are listed on ebay for $1400 bottom, top and sidelocker.. tempting

The only concern I have is with the height of some of the drawers (found the specs from devildogtools on ebay)

any chance you can post some pics with it loaded up

Thanks for the review!

Sure, here's some somewhat newer pics. Currently, it's 100% full, I have a craftsman box 3/4 it size also full. Debating if I want a top or another cabinet.

On our large full width drawer, the guy we bought it from used some epoxy to adhere a panel to the back of the drawer front. That helps stiffen it up some. We bought ours from a guy that buys the displays and scratch and dents.

I HATE the drawer stiffeners in the drawer, but the rest is decent. It is our second box, so it is not overloaded, and is not heavily used.

International has some online dealers that advertise, "USA made" American Made, Domestic toolboxes etc. The facts are this they have a warehouse in Naperville IL. They bring in product from Canada and China. They produce no products in the USA. I met with their national sales director at a tool show in June. He was showing me there "Domestic product" I asked how Canada became domestic? His reply was well we just consider it to be domestic with NAFTA and all.

Some of there dealers advertise American made with a little picture of a US flag. When you read their fine print for their sites they are referring to North American made.

Maybe this line of reasoning is how some things 'Made in China' are advertised as 'USA' what with the 'global economy and all'.:wtf:

Hello,
I'm new here as a friend just directed me to the forum as well as this thread. I've been hemming & hawing over which 42" combo toolbox to get for my shop and keep returning to the $850 combos offered by DevilDogTools.com. I have a pretty strong aversion towards purchasing anything 'Made in China', so this thread made me wonder...

Well, I just got off the phone with a lady in customer service at SPG International (maker of these toolboxes). I explained my concerns and she assured me that any ProWorks/International Tool Box purchased now is manufactured in Canada. According to her, SPG stopped importing Chinese-made boxes in May of 2009.

So, feel free to call the company directly should you have the same concerns I did. I'm looking forward to exploring this site!

Anybody know what the distance(width) is between the stiffeners in the TOP drawer(actual usable surface) on the bottom box?

I'm wondering if my Hansen socket organizers will fit between the stiffeners! the top/large drawer is where I want to put ALL my sockets

Here's the International Web Site that should have all the information needed:
http://www.spginternational.ca/vw/fs/p002.htm

Was searching the web for boxes today and came across Nissan Crawler's write up. To further help clarify the COO questions on this old thread, it appears pictures of the Canadian product feature a small Made in Canada icon in the lower left corners while other pics show nothing. Look like great boxes and like others have remarked the price they go for on ebay is really nice, free shipping from "qualitytoolsforless".
