Internet Advise - Try To Get The Definitive Answer

Hey, Folks - Up doing the roof on my back porch this week before the weather gets too hot and a question has arisen. Internet searches lead to two totally different trains of thought.

So, does the snow and ice shied go on before the drip edge or after ?

My thought is that if i do it before i can leave an inch hanging over it may protect the edge of the plywood.

How does it fit here ? Well, i am sitting in my garage having a beer and typing this in full view of the porch.

Mine was done on the bare plywood before anything else...

That seems logical to me since the edges of the original ply was what rotted first.

I can't remember what the roofing guy did on my shop.

Mine too, and I'm happy with the results.

S&I shield go on after drip edge on eaves. That way any water that gets under the shingles doesn't get under the drip edge and onto the wood.

On the gable sides, the drip edge goes on top, so any water that gets on top of the drip edge doesn't get under the s&i shield.

Ahhh, we have a critic^^.^
Alot of cities do not have a web site for their building codes. (Mine for example)
There is also a very great many informed opinions on here as well.
Never hurts to bounce an idea off a buddy.

number 1 rule in shingle roofing, always overlap layers. drip edge first, ice & water, starter strip, shingles. Overlap tar paper over ice & water.

Odds are local code would say "to be installed according to mfg specifications".
