Nothing will ever work as well as a cable.
If this is a road without any utilities underneath (be positive!)... Really consider a conduit under the road. It's possibly not that hard. Guys use a pipe with a hose attached, using the water jet to dig the path. Google it.

The ubiquiti nanostations work extremely well for point to point bridges, but if you have the ability to install a conduit definitely consider fiber. It's inherently dielectric (unless armored and you're already in a conduit) so lightning isolation will be covered. Pre-terminated assemblies are reasonably inexpensive, and with singlemode between your structures it's realatively future resistant. The bandwidth limitation is whatever the electronics at each end can process.

I do this for a living and it's really not as intimidating as it sounds. Anyone feel free to ask for advice because glass wire is the way to go. I probably put a mile of the stuff across my property linking 5 buildings. You never know when you'll need wifi (or a camera) in the garden shed.

My first time on this forum. I've been looking for information regarding an "app-friendly" security camera set-up for my garage. I live on the first floor in a multi-story apartment building with a garage located about 50 yards away separated by two, single story buildings. Concrete and asphalt walkways/driveways preclude any burying of cable for Ethernet/wifi. Line of sight is only possible from the fourth floor rooftop, which I have very limited access to. I've been told by the local cable company that they cannot provide even a separate account/service to set up a surveillance camera, though I cannot understand why. Should I run a cat 6 up to the roof to a dish pointed to the garage roof? I'm really a newbie to all this but a quick learner and very hands-on. Terminology is my weakness at this point so any advice or help needs to be rather dumbed-down, at least at first. I appreciate any help you all can offer. The garage has been broken into 3 times in the last year with significant loss of tools and supplies.
