Hi all. I am probably just one of a wave of future FNG's that are going to flood this place...expect a tidal wave of newbies not too far behind "us" ( I noticed Tman has joined - he's one of us ).

We may be new to this place but most of us have been long-time member's of the other Atomic Industry message boards. So we should behave - and we should all be able to navigate without having our hands held.

Chances are, before we get used to this interface - it will be going to something we are more used to. I think all of you garagejunkies.net regulars are going to make a bunch of really trustworthy new friends, and I think you are also going to dig the new format.

We come in peace.

Anyway - already showing my ability to speak out of turn and talk too long.

If I hadn't already blabbed on and on I'd tell ya more about myself...but I hate myself anyways, so we're all better off...

better late than never

In response to the size of my garage....

I have a very small 16'x20' one car at my place. I am able to shove all of my wife's **** and a motorcycle into it. That's about it.

My father has a really good shop. He's a retired collision repair man. So now he builds/paints cars in his shop. If I ever need to work on something I generally take it to dad's shop to work on it. Right now I am designing a chassis for a '34 Ford truck that we are constructing in his garage.

I am a CAD draftsman by trade - and I have been a sign designer and installer in the past. If I ever get a little more time to myself I will offer to make some blueprints to the GarageJunkies members. But first I'd like to settle in here and wait until Ryan has a firm grasp on the functionality of the board. If he upgrades (and I anticipate significant changes for the better) I will make a post announcing just that.

Right now I am just starting a new job and having another child.....oye! Technically I am a temp, but I keep getting extentions. It's their way of affording cheap, talented (guess I'm not humble) labor and not paying for benefits. However if I should actually be rewarded with full time employment I plan on designing and building a new home. Believe you me - a garage is atop the "build to suit" list. Hence my interest in this place. It should be my idea warehouse....

In my spare time these days I am working on designing a couple of *top secret* parts for my brother. He has "invented" something that I can't talk about here, but I think the car lovers might really dig....I'll keep you updated. I am also reverse engineering a flathead part from a 6 cyl out of a vintage Mopar for a fellow HAMB friend - something he plans on taking to his machine shop and reproducing.......and I've never even met the guy. That's the spirit of the HAMB for ya. A brotherhood of hoods', lol.

Welcome Broman!

You'll find many good ideas for garages/shops on here. There's many threads and posts on here and pictures to go along with them.

You might even want to post some pics of that '34 Ford project when you get a chance.

just a couple pics...

I thought I'd give you an idea what my truck is going to look like. And while I was at it I tripped over a couple of quick and dirty models of my dad's shop.

It looks a little small but he can churn out 3 or 4 cars a year from this shop and still have room to pull a Harley in for a tune-up.

My truck will (hopefully) evolve into a blend between these two trucks. I don't want it as low as Rudy's (green one) but I don't want it to sit quite as high as Rocky's (the one with the, uhh "Patina" finish). :)

I don't wish to go into too many details about all that here though. That will all go to the HAMB.

As far as the garage - I think it's 30' deep x 50' (?). I can't really recall. The only thing I remember is that dad ordered the longest trusses they could make to have plenty of room fore and aft a car after it was pulled into a stall, and I think 30' is about as long as they get...I think....and the 50' is just a wild guesstimation based on the 30' depth.

All I know is that my garage could fit inside dad's and he could still close the doors and walk around it....lol.

The room in the front left corner is for storage (usually the whole interior of a car - so they don't get all dirty and stuff). It is also where he keeps the upright standing air compressor and the HVAC unit....yep heated and air conditioned detached garage. And not just detached a couple of feet from the main house - it's a good 40' from the house - reduces noise and fumes from bothering mom and my "brothers" (her little ankle-biter dogs).

In the left rear corner behind the storage room stands a professional bike lift and a very large -extreme heavy duty welding table. It has a 3/8" thick steel top holding a vise and a few (removable) metal shapeing and metal cutting implements. He also uses it as his staging area for paint mixing and other body working processes.

Enjoy.
