My name is Rob and I'm a garage junkie. I come from a family of garage junkies.
haha.

Just recently bought my first home, which thank god as a garage. home was built in 1929, small cape cod, single car detached garage.....a little bigger than "modern" garages but single nonetheless.

It was bare with some old wood shelves when i bought it, but being in NJ and being a old car and motorcycle nut, i need HEAT so i proceeded to insulate it.....and then sheetrock it......create astorage loft, etc. etc. etc. you get the point.

just finished up i "hope" my final coat of paint yesterday (ill see when i get home!)

im about ready to do my floor,

since the garage was old, sheetrocking was a ***** as none of the wood was straight, so what was a challange for a guy who is used to working with gears and never put up a peice of wood in my life.

I managed to insulate and sheetrock the entire garage, built a storage loft above the garage.....

My putty/jointcompounding skills stink and my sanding even worse, but it still looks probably better than some peoples houses!

i am at the point now where I am going to rustoleum epoxy my floor with the "professional" grade kit. first i have to scrub the hell outta the floor as since i sprayed the paint inside, the floor is covered with ****. this is what led me to this site for advice.

here is a pic of what i started with...no pics yet of the finished product but you could put carpet and a couch and ccall it a living room now!!

I already caught your other post showing better close ups of your van and a bone. Your pops is too sweet, you both have the right idea, my idea of cool! So dad must either have a sizeable shop space for building such a ride, or he purchased the car already done? I am betting he built the ride, then helped you get yours on the road? If i guess right, you are very lucky to have someone there for the learning curve on the first rod.

looks great!

I'm starting to sheetrock mine now and thinking of spray painting the walls and ceiling.

Let us know how you get the paint off your floor

well i tried muriatic acid last night and no go....didnt really make the paint budge.

im assuming if the muriatic acid (even mixeda little on the "strong" side) didnt make it come up, the epoxy isnt going to come up..

its not "caked" on there like the wall, its just overspray. my floor is older concreet so its not smooth and rather pourous so it should bite.

im going to etch it a few more times before i lay down the epoxy just to be sure. my biggest hurdle now is the weather....cold weather is here and THATS not good. going to have to use a space heater to heat the hell outta the garage before, during and after i lay down the epoxy.

the reason the walls look a little wavy is because they are.

it was my first atempt at doing something like this, ive never worked with wood, or sheetrock in my life.....i figured how hard can it be....honestly its not. just requires patience.

since thewood is OLD much of it is a little tweaked (but harder than steel, ever try running a screw through old solid wood???)

i should have kinda re-braced (not sure what you call this) but butted up 2x4's next to the existing studs so i would have a even surface to lay down the sheetrock.

i did this with 2x6's for the ceiling.

and yeah. mudding is quite possibly the worst thing ever. ever.

id rather bondo and do body work than mudd.

Nice. But the 'fridge was empty. Or is that an "after" shot?

Welcome to here, btw.

And, here's a thought since you are now a homeower - add a lean to onto the back of the garage. That way you can keep the clutter out of your living space, er, ah, garage. Heck, you could even keep your air compressor in the lean to just to isolate the noise.

I was told about this site from another board member on the '67-'87 Chevy truck board and this is my first post on this board. I just have to say you have done a great job on your garage. I also have a home built in 1929 and at the moment the garage is in the basement. I am planning on having a 30'X50' built when I have the money. Thinking about a pole barn type garage. Want the ceiling high enough to later install a lift.

It has probably already been suggested, but what about tring to clean the floor with a strong pressure washer?

I'm whiz, I'm a HAMB'r,Mini Trucker, Garage nut, Beer drinker, and a red neck to boot. I like to leave parts cars at Banzai's house for years on end, as well as swap tools with Banzai every year or so.

Caffine - Welcome aboard - Dixiedog from the HAMB here, met you and Big Ron (RIP) down at Biketoberfest or Bike Week last year in Daytona.

The garage is looking good, sanding drywall is like Bondo just doesn't smell as nice!! If you have tried muratic acid, try floor stripper which you can find at janitorial supply houses (the Home Depot/Lowes isn't as strong) and put it on full strength and let it set for a while and then wash it out. I use it for stripping grease and paint off parts from the junk-yard.
