Hello everyone,
I've been a member for a little while and now that my own Tool collection is growing, and I'm planing a garage project of my own, I figured I'd better surround myself (online) with like minded people who 'suffer' (is that the right word?) from the same type of self inflicted insanity as I do.
OK firstly I'm Jordan, I'm 16, I live in Victoria Australia. I am mad keen on Volkswagens. I have a 1972 super beetle, which I've had 6 years, and a 1973 type 2 (Kombi) that i bought last year. To see the on going restoration see link below (pics of my beetle are on the last couple of pages)

Now the type of tools I'm into..............
Primarily Hazet mainly because of the association with Volkswagen.
I also collect Matra tools, Matra is the type of tools that Volkswagen made/had made specially for their cars. They were used in the assembly factories and dealership service departments.
I've recently inherited a Matra tool box along with quite a few tools. My grandfather worked at Spencer motors, the only Volkswagen dealer in Australia at the time, he and my grandmother are moving into a retirement village and a massive clean out he gave his VW tools to me.
So here are the pics of my tools:
Early Hazet
My Hazet box (looking for some tools to fill this btw)
What hand Matra tools look like just a few to give you the idea
My Matra box (filled with the Stahlwille tools used in the service department by my grandfather)
My grand father also gave me this nice little Rota box, I put all the imperial and whit worth tools in this box as I'll never use them
Now for the parts I need help with.
How do you restore old tool boxes? I want to restore the Matra box I have as the patina is too far gone, my friend said something about a watered down mixture of phosphorus acid to soak it in to remove the rust. I don't want to use a wire brush to strip the box as I'll only polish the rust. any ideas?
Another thing, I'm finally getting my own garage to restore my cars in and I've been following the Craftsman garage thread and I'm taken by the idea. So a Volkswagen service department themed garage is what I'm aiming for. There were books published during the early 60's telling someone how to set up a dealership, it included color charts for walls and floors. I've been searching for one to buy, but in 3 years haven't found one yet. so if anyone has any ideas or tips, any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for you time
