Hello All Y'all,
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Danny Cathcart. Y'all can call me anything y'all want, except late for supper
I'm soon to be 62 years old (rocking chair time) retired old fart from the State of Michigan, Dept of Corrections. Now residing in Muscle Shoals AL.
My interests vary. Yard work, gardening, tinkering, and putzin around. Anything that will keep a layer of dirt up under my finger nails.
I joined this forum after finding and reading several posts relating to a hopefully new to me, Delta Homecraft 11-120 Drill Press of which I'll be viewing in person this coming Wendesday. If checks out, I'm jumping on it. My Bride gave the green light to do so. Happy spouse, happy house.
Recent tool purchase is a Charles Parker 973 vise which near as I can tell was made just prior to WWII. It's a fine specimen of a vise too. No pictures just yet. But, will post some in the near future.
From view several threads within the pages of The Garage Journal, it was very evident to me the wealth of good information contained here. Its a nice feeling too! Because in a prior work lifetime, for about 10 years, I was a job sitter/machinist at a Aluminum Extrusion factory in Charliotte Michigan. Hence, My love of working with my hands.
I'll soon be in the process of converting a she'd into my work shop. Nothing major. Just a little place ill be able to go and putz in
During my reads here concerning bench top drill presses, I made note of a drill speed reduction kits. Not having the proper tooling to work with, I'd like to inquire from others here at this site about the feller here who fabs up speed reduction kit, and the possibility of getting one of those rascals for myself. I cannot recall this fellers name right now for the life of me. Older age I guess. But, he has the icon of a feller driving a tack into the wall with a extra large (Very!!) wooden mallet. Any info, Will be my appreciated.
In closing, I'd like to thank all y'all kindly. I look to fit in nicely here. Hopefully, this old dog will learn some new tricks.
Danny.
