I've been a car guy all my life, since I was old enough to push Hot Wheels cars across the kitchen floor. No stranger to DiY projects as my dad, brother and I built a detached 4 1/2 car garage behind the house I grew up in after my dad and I restored a 1965 Mustang fastback in that house's attached two-car in the early '90s...
Closest I've gotten to my own garage is the current detached 1950s two-car we're in now, complete with Swiss-cheese style concrete floor, bare-stud walls, 2 electrical wall outlets, 8.5 ft (in most places) ceiling and enormous single swing-down garage door! Happily, we're finishing the planning stages on a new house with an attached three-car garage and I couldn't be more thrilled to finally have my own 'blank slate' to work with.
Hoping to turn it into a very nice 'working' garage with new benches, cabinets, painted floors and proper lighting. It will be fully organized/stocked to handle maintenance/mods/cleaning/detailing of my fleet while also providing parking for her DD, the family truckster and the two Mustangs (via a 4-poster, provided I have the ceiling height needed).
I've been reading Garage Journal for years and have been amazed and inspired by all of the great garage projects here. While I will have to keep my dream garage/toy stable/workshop with raised loft on hold for the next house, I hope to contribute and provide inspiration for others that 'get by' with 'only' an attached two- or three-car garage... I'll have questions along the way, so bare with me and enjoy the read. Much more to come.
