Anyone have experience with Intumescent Paint? Link to news clip

I have some flat roof trusses that I might want to leave exposed, but thinking about fire safety.
(Not adjacent to living space, so not code regulated.)

Looks like it may be available for covering foam insulation as well: Link to Article

Wow, I’ve found intumescent varnish too: here and here.

Could make wood ceiling trusses look mighty unique.

From hacking around on the internet, it seems like intumescent products are more readily available on the “other side of the pond”. Wonder why that is?

It's pretty expensive but I suppose it works. What is your goal? Sheetrock would probably be cheaper.

Considering that it takes a heat source of around 450 or so to light wood on fire from heat, I'm sort of wondering why?

I would say that in most cases it's not the wood that starts on fire as an initial source but things like insulation backing, vapor barrier fabrics, shingle materials and in the home carpeting. A lot of time it will be shavings, sawdust and debris within a wall that feeds a fire.

If you get a raging fire up that high, I don't know how much time you will be buying. The heat will be immense by then.

Wow, all the snarky-a$$'s came out of the word-work I see.

Thanks for absolutely nothing, besides polluting this thread.

FYI: You see those two two bold words at the top of the page under the directory tree? That's called the thread title. You know: The link you clicked on to bring you to this page? The thread title is "Intumescent Paint". And I don't know if you knew this or not, but paint can be applied to cabinets! It's true.

I would back up and ask "why". I worked in my last shop for 12 years with exposed kraft paper insulation on the ceiling. No issues, pay attention to what you're doing. I did welding, grinding, etc, etc. Oh - walls were same, mostly exposed kraft paper with an occasional sheet of OSB.
