Inverter location: dedicated cart or table shelf?

Hello,

In two minds whether to (A) fab a small welding cart for my inverter, gauntlets & mask, pedal and bottle or (B) modify my existing 40"x25" welding table by adding an extra steel shelf to it? I just want to store the welder & accessories in one place. So interested in practicality of either choice.

What do you guys recommend? My welding revolves mostly around SS exhaust parts & brackets for various car projects.

I would use "B". If you just use a cart it will be in the way when you are not using it. The table can always be used. I am always having to move stuff around just to make room.

I like option "A". I use my table for other things besides welding along with welding with my mig. I have my welders on separate carts that I can keep tucked away when not in use!

I'm an option A guy as some of my welding needs won't fit on the table so I need to bring the welder to them.

I'd also go A. I made one of my work benches tall enough that my MIG welding cart fits underneath when not in use.

Another vote for option A. It's always nice to be able to move your welder assembly to where you need it when your leads aren't long enough.

If you go with B you can just roll your bench closer to where you need it, then you have a table to set stuff on. Just have enough extension cord for your input power. You either roll the table or the welding cart. I am only suggesting that because I have a 24'sq garage that is stuffed wall to wall and trying to keep room to park 2 vehicles.

Thanks for your replies. Good idea re separate cart that you can roll under the bench. I might as well go with this! :rocker:

I like A, I would be a bit leery of putting the welder right where you will likely be welding, grinding, hammering etc

Same with the tank, if you do a table you need to put the tank right there too.
