Existing concrete is 40 X 32 then the building will transition to posts. Will pour concrete on the new section, build a wall between the two and heat the 40 X 40.
I should also add that I’ve been visiting for quite some time and pm’ed with one member several years ago. I’ve always gotten a good feel coming here and look forward to contributing to the community. I’m not sure how the pic turned out so please advise if there are ways to make my posts easier to view.

The builder was here a few weeks ago and was planning on the end of the month but we’ve since had 12”+ of snow. Picture is looking North and the red lines show the south edge of the existing concrete. Side walls will be 14’ with two 12’ doors. One 16’ wide and one 12’ wide—both facing east.

Excel didn’t copy perfectly to iPad but this is pretty close to what I’m thinking.

-10 deg F yesterday morning and they got poles in the ground and more framing done than i would have guessed. They didn't get the skid loader started until 10AM, which worked out because the gravel for the holes didn't arrive until 12pm - truck gelled up. Will post pics later but this is actually happening now.

Day two and the rafters are up and the roof is about half covered with some tin on the walls. They're expecting to be done tomorrow but that conversation was before gutters were discussed. I'm taking a long lunch tomorrow to swing home and drop off some lunch for them so i'm looking forward to meeting with them. Still can't believe the progress they've made.

They had to clear more snow and their skid loader came way too close to our septic tank and splitter box. Relatively certain we're good but a quick walk around with the builder would have kept this from happening.

It's up. I have one quote for the overhead doors and I"m waiting on two more. We originally were going with white but are now reconsidering. I don't know what the price difference will be but we may need to absorb that cost. I plan to add some lumber this weekend where the grade changes and then wait for a thaw so that I can get the site prepared for concrete.

Wow, nice building! I'm in Jasper County here in Iowa, and am planning on hopefully putting up a 30 by 60 this summer that I tore down last summer, I just need to go over what all I salvaged and go from there. Im thinking about doing half with concrete and half cold storage for outdoor equipment. I can't wait, I bet you're excited to get out there in it too! Congrats!

Building is looking good. Fellow eastern Iowan here in Linn County. You were very wise in having WIDE enough overhead door openings. A friend of mine had 10 foot wide OH doors installed in his shop and cusses every time he backs his pickup in.

If you're going to heat your building, BE SURE to get well insulated OH doors installed.

Earlybirds: "You were very wise in having WIDE enough overhead door openings." The building will be walled off with 40'X40' heated (North side, near opening in the picture). The original plan was a 16' wide door for the cold storage and 12' wide for the heated but a miscommunication with the building ended up giving me two doors that are 16' wide. He offered to sink a pole to give me what I originally wanted but the more I thought about it the more I liked having both of them 16' wide. I'd hate to have 10' wide, especially when backing a trailer into it.

Supernova, that's similar to what I did. I took down a barn that was 32'X40' and used the existing concrete for the South end. You must have tons of wood to use if you took down something 30'X60'. IMO, too many people are just digging holes and lighting a match on all that wood.
Good luck.

Hey, another Iowan here. In fact, another Jasper County-an.

Great looking steel sided building. I can't believe you are able to get it up during this winter. Good on you, and good on the builder for having serious pair.

I'm a fellow Grundy County guy. I made a quick ride to Traer yesterday. Man, one of those brand new grain bins (east of Dinsdale) looks like a smashed pop can.

Yes yes it does, I know the exact one and farmer you are talking about. Go south if Dysart it to Toledo and Motown and it’s awful. So sad for people
