So something a little different.. My wife likes to cook and wanted a stand for her iPad to sit on the countertop to use for recipes while she cooks. Checked eBay and saw a stand that I halfway liked and decided to use the base design but modify it to my liking.. Anyway, drew up a 3d model and ran it by her to make sure she liked the angles and look. It was then off to the mill and lathe I went.. Nothing fancy but was fun to make.. She wants it anodized with crazy colors so I'll have to buy some new dyes.. A happy wife is happy for everybody.. :D

I think you need to anodize it like the rendering. The red would match my LeCrueset cast iron.

I agree.. I plan to do it. I need some cooperation with weather so I can finish running some better ventilation for the anodizing tank. Once I do, I was going to do a couple different colors including the red in the pic.

Ok, that is one hell of a nice stand! Did you do any more step by step pictures of making that? I always admire you guys that have this ability to make stuff from scratch!

That is a great looking piece. I am jealous with the tools and the ability you have.

Couple pics of one I lasered out of acrylic, and with smaller axles and my iPhone. My phone is the black one and is .65 thick with the otterbox case and the other is my daughter's with normal case. The angle is really slick when sitting at a desk, you see can see alerts that pop up without having to lift phone up..

Yes, Solidworks 2013.. Really like it, I use it for pretty much everything.. Makes me think through and plan everything before starting to cut.
solidworks?

Lol! I need one of those batmobiles! Check out the pics above.. I did laser one out of acrylic/plexi.. It was pretty slick, I used bolts as through axles instead of billet. Haven't done the wood but that would be cool looking too..
Holy billet Batman! Looks just great Deer.
Have you considered other materials like Acrylic or even wood?

Watch out after the mill comes the lathe! But it sure opens up the possibilities. I'm a tool junkie..

I see AF Utah on your location.. I was stationed 4 years at Hill.
Thanks a lot, now I have to put CNC Mill on my must have list LOL. That looks fantastic!

how do you like it compared to 2010 (if you have any experience with other versions, of course).

i have 2010 for personal use ... been deciding on whether or not i want to upgrade ... its more than a bit of cash.

I bought it in 2011 and the local distributor did a major discount on training classes.. I had never touch anything CAD before. I do the machining in evenings/weekends and work a different day job. I ended up taking all my vacation last year and going to the training classes.. No regrets, I use it for everything now.. I'm redoing a deck on my house, and will draw/model the whole thing first. I'm also close to pulling the trigger on a 3D printer and being able to do solid models will be needed for that also. It's good stuff in my opinion.

Hey, looks like another Ohio person. I see Cincinnati in your signature.. There are some other local folks on here too.. Kevin54 is from Urbana, and some Dayton guys also.. When the weather breaks, will have to maybe do a local GJ SW Ohio meet/greet..

Given the interest, I'm going to be running another batch of stands this coming weekend. If anybody still wants one, drop me a PM. Thanks
