Has anyone seen the ads or watched the YouTube clip
or better yet seen one?

If the price is right and the tool's capabilites stack up, it might come in handy.

Wow. What a horrible teaser. At least give us some specs on it, maybe even a full shot of the tool. I mean, I realize it's a teaser, but give me something more than "hey, we got this sweet new impacting ratchet!"

Didn't they already have something like this a couple of years ago? When I asked about it on some forum (maybe this one), I was told that after you broke a nut loose with it, sometimes it wouldn't spin it the rest of the way off and that there were a lot of them for sale used as a result. I wonder if this is an improved model.

as long as it doesn't have the $400 dollar price of the matco pitbull im interested.

Lets compare

MT2858 Pit bull 130ft lbs $353.95
MT1849A 76ft lbs $259.95
http://www.matcotools.com/Catalog/toolcatalog.jsp?cattype=T&cat=2292&page=1&#63992

FAR7200 70ft lbs $399.95
FAR72C 65ft lbs $399.95
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/tools.asp?tool=all&Group_ID=19894&store=snapon-store

The Pit Bull is $45 less than the Snap On, yet you choose to incorrectly fault it based on an incorrect price. I will not take anything from the FAR 7200 or 72C ratchets. They have been around for a long time & are strong, reliable units. But, you can save some coin & get more power.....

I was not comparing it to the snap on, this is a thread about the new IR hammer ratchet. I did not know the snap on far was also $400. I agree the pitbull is an awesome tool, but its price tag is way to much. Definitly to much for the snapon with 60 ft lbs less

If the hammer ratchet is $275 and lets just say it has 100 ft lbs so right in the middle, for 125 less that is what I would and will probably buy.

Go to www.youtube.com/irtoolscom to see the introduction video that has specs as well as a review by a real shop owner. The IR HammerHead is not a ratchet, but a true impactool. It has 180 ft/lbs of torque and 7,100 rpm.

Welcome to the board!! Where does the tool exhaust at? Does it vent through what appear to be holes around the square drive? The video links provided are a slight improvement over a shark swimming around but, instead of watching a tech from New Jersey remove upper strut mount bolts (where any old tool would work) I would have rather seen the tool work on motor mounts and seen and heard the exhaust and noise. Thanks for the updated information,

Thanks for the welcome! The HammerHead exhausts through the bottom of the handle at an angle away from the air hose. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Stay tuned to the irtoolscom channel...there are a lot more application videos that will be posted in the coming days and weeks.

I really like it. I can see the real benifts of the tool. I also see the danger. looking into my crystal ball I see a lot of water pump bolts getting wrung off, broken valve covers, craked intakes and such. The head looks a good bit larger than an air ratchet which could prove bulky. I think it would be great for some thing but not enough to justify buying one. My Snap-On air ratchets has 65 lbs of torque and you get the feel for the torque at the handle so it's easy to judge. I have to break a lot of bolts loose with it but it hits pretty hard anyway.

I would love to have one just to own one but I think that big head would prove to be it's biggest liability. I'm sure it's built well as I use only IR impact wrenches and they have been nothing but fantastic. I used a IR reactionless air ratchet some years back. Great concept but only lasted about a year. I still own one of the first snap-on air ratchets that puts out an incredible 7ftlbs of torque.

They still sell the reactionless ratchet, I not sure if its the same you are talking about. I bought bought mine maybe 2-3yrs ago and it is still for sale in the matco catalog. I really like it.

The one I had I bought when they first came out (92??) I loved the way it worked and wouldn't get you jamed up with your hand on the trigger (It happens) I used it hard for a year until the head spread and nothing but trouble from then on. I'm sure IR has refined it from the first models

Now if they would build a 1/4 drive version of the IR2115TI i'd be all over it. Give me about 150 ftlbs on that baby.

I like the Snap On 3/8 drive air ratchets better, feel they have more power than the Ingersal Rands.I just had one sent out,my FAR7200 by the Snap On dealer down the road to get rebuilt.Do this once a year due to use,was starting to lose power and it is worth it.I have been told by my Matco Dealer,Ronald Bishop to keep both hands on the pit bull. The pit bull is very powerful and will take your hand off.The Snap On air ratchets are the same way.

My understanding is all models have the same size outer shell? Correct?
It will work grate for removing stuck O2 sensors without getting the torch out.

I believe Mac makes an impacting ratchet, the IR2015 is an angle impact that will put out 4 or 5X the torque.

You are correct the 3/8" and 1/2" are the same basic tool with different size square drives.

Yes, the 3/8 and 1/2 inch sizes are built on the same tool, same performance, same size.

You can't please everybody but, I've never met an IR tool I didn't like. I don't think the Hammerhead will replace my 2115TIMAX but, I can see where it would come in handy. I'll pick one up as they become available from tooltopia or the toolwarehouse.net.

I'm impressed. Alot of hand injuries may be avoided with such a tool. It could certainly be used for most air ratchet and impact work with the space effective orientation of the tool.

Yup, those early ones were grenades :)
I sold plenty then all hell broke loose (or actually, didn't anymore.)
IR replaced them to the customer with a modified model as I remember.
Always felt confident selling IR but that series gave a few months of agita.

I personally can't stand air ratchets over 1/4" drive. But guys who love air ratchets have tight pants over the impact air ratchets.
