Thanks to the folks on the board I purchased an Ingersoll-Rand IRT231USA 1/2" drive Impact to help with some work I'm doing on my car. I'm replacing the rear main seal on my 99 V6 Firebird (what fun) and figured an impact would make this much easier. So, for it has worked well and removed everything with ease including rusty exhaust bolts. It certainly kicks the **** out of my Campbell Hausfield impact that had trouble removing lug nuts torqued to 100 ft/lbs.

Sound wise it's not too bad. It's loud but not so much that I feel I need ear muffs. It's heavy and does feel like it's made of solid steel though. This impact is dubbed the "Patriot Gun" due to it's flag themed paint job. It's a little over the top but is at least assembled in the USA unlike the other current 231 series impacts. I'm sure they're all made of the same parts though.

I ordered it from Tooltopia this monday at about 9 AM and it was on my doorstep when I got home from work Tuesday. It was shipped from GA and I'm in FL so your transit times will vary from them but I was happy.

Anyways, I'll echo what most other folks say on the board. If you're looking for a good entry level impact I think you'll be pleased with one of the IR231 series.

Thanks,
David

I use a 231HA daily in a shop, as do most mechanics around the US.

Awesome impact for the money.
