ir meteric impact sockets

I grabbed the shallow a couple of weeks ago. The price is fair compared to other discount retailers in th US. Up here in Canada that price is very good ( heck, it's hard just to find somebody that sells these particular sets here ).
I've had my IR set for 2 years and they seem to hold up ok but I only used them when space is tight; they are thin walled - for most applications, I use either the GP or Craftsman ... btw ... they are also made in Taiwan ...
To Elroy's way of thinking that would actually be the preferred method before making a purchase.
Those IR impact sockets are of Taiwan manufacture but you should have zero trouble with their performance. After all steel is steel to a certain extent.
I have a 1/2 set of shallow and deep IR sockets, mine came in a metal box (deep) and a metal socket tray (shallow), don't know if it's the same as those. Been using them for the past 3 years. holding up fine and I think it's a good bargain. would buy again, in fact I'm looking for a 3/8 set now.

I have both the shallow and deep metric set which I just received. I also bought some GP sockets and I like the IRs better. Finish is very good in my opinion and weight is balanced. I believe that the IR name is worth protecting so it does not matter where these are made. Nice solid case as bonus. I paid almost the same from National Tools Warehouse.

Roger that. I have had decent luck even with MIT and HF impact sockets (admittedly sourced from Taiwan and not China though).

I put some of these IR sockets to use. The new shinny black finish is beautiful when it is new but scratches off after several use. I used the 21mm on Tire Lugs and in so doing scratched off some black sidings finish. The color on the inside of the socket is also wearing off and now shows the steel color.

IMHO, if you use impact socket regularly; any brand will wear off whatever protective coating that they have chose to put on their sockets. All you have to do is look in the drawer of any tech that is busy using his tools and you will see this. To assume this won't wear off is wishful thinking; keep 'em oiled to try to stop the rust. I would assume this must be a problem in your area which has a tropical climate, right? Maybe others can recommend some sort of solution.

They all lose their colour, they end up a sort of gunmetal colour, i like it more than the industrial finish they have when they're new.
I think the IR sockets are very good. For the price, you can't beat them and their range has no gaps either. That price is very good for those sets. IR wouldn't put their name on a sub-standard product anyway, there's nothing to worry about performance-wise.

Roger ..... as long as the size markings don't fade out then I am happy.
