Just recently bought an IR SS3F2-GM 30 gal. horizontal compressor. Reading the supplied manual, I see nothing about breaking in the pump. I believe I read somewhere on this forum about breaking in by running the compressor for 30 minutes with the valve opened.

So I checked their .pdf manuals online and found that the manual for their SS3L3 vertical compressor recommends this method, but not for others SS3 models even though they are supposedly the same pump.

This compressor has 100% duty cycle, so should I just go ahead and break it in or did IR removed this initial start-up procedure for some reason? I also noticed that they shifted the manufacturing of their pumps over to China. Since when did that happen?? :wtf:

on my ss3l3 i broke it in for about 30 min. and then replaced the compressor oil. I noticed there were small black specks so i went ahead and repeated the process for piece of mind.

And yeah it ***** about the china parts on it.

Good idea, I will check the oil after I break it in. Especially if the pump was made in China!

I kind of wonder if the reason IR only tell the SS3L3 owners to do this procedure because their pumps will be running at 1200RPM (240v) when mine will be turning at 580RPM (120v).
