I'm trying to purchase a good air compressor for my 25'x25' garage/ I work on my personal toys, 93 Lightning, and 95 Bronco, a lot, and would like to do some limited panel painting. I was looking around and came across this really ugly looking, but good working 50 gal air compressor. It's an IR T30 compressor. I really don't know much about it so I have a couple pics and was looking for some input. The guy want's &750 and I have no idea if that's fair or not. Please advise.

$750 for that old 2 HP compressor seems way high!!

Those HF compressors aren't bad. (same as Bel Aire 216v's). The pump is made in Italy, the motor is a name brand but made in Mexico. The tank looks pretty decent. Reviews are generally positive. It might be the only thing HF sells that doesn't come from China.

That T30 is only 2HP. It'll be VERY quiet, but not that much output.
I too think that $750 is outrageous for it. $400 is more like it, but only if it's got enough CFMs for your needs (it won't run a DA sander, that's for sure).

THank you for all the input! Basically I want to run the basic hand tools plus a spray gun from Eastwood. It's a HVLP that needs 12cfm@40psi. I would like to run a small air sander for wet sanding. I saw one called a Jitterbug I believe.

SPECIFICATIONS
• 12 CFM @ 43 PSI max. working pressure at the air inlet, 10 PSI max. at the Air Cap.
• M16 x 1.5NPS cup attachment threads.
• 1/4” NPT Air Inlet threads.

Air sanders need a lot of air because you run them for long periods.

Yes it is sold as new with a 2 yr warranty parts and service. It's a 4 piston. I've never seen a 4 piston to my knowledge.

I would really prefer to stay new because of the warranty. I really just want this for painting, and spinning an impact and rachet.

The harbor freight would be a better by. As said it is the same as the bellair and parts are avilable. Camble not somuch.

I'd put them in around the same class. HF and Campbell are Chinese imports.
In this case, both are ASME tanks.
The HF is 2 stage (that's a plus), but the CF has a higher CFM rating, and costs less.

With the fact that the CF you're looking at has a warranty, and service by a local company that comes to you, that's a big plus.

Neither name is known for it's superior longevity though.

^^Untrue. I know it's hard to fathom, but the HF compressor is not Chinese.

- Pump from Italy
- Motor from Mexico
- Tank and assembly is US

The 4 cyl CH one has a made in USA motor and tank. It was a strong selling point. I'm not sure about the pump but it's cast iron.

That's a $200.00 dollar special with a rusty old tank.If someone gave it to me I would go through it and put it on a 80gal if the duty cycle of the head was 100%.Is the head an IR 234 ? $750 will get you a unit with a new 60gal tank and a warranty. I would pay $750 pesos for it if they tossed in a bottle of high end sipping tequila. That is just my take... -Cheers

I would stick with old american iron. They are super simple to rebuild and parts are easy to find for the bigger brands. Get a CFM calculator for your smart phone and spec that old IR t30. If its able to put out what you need offer the guy a fair price maybe $400 IMO. I bought an old t30 5hp 125gallon tank two stage for $200 that had a bad head. $325 later the heads were brand new and will out last me in my garage. It's a $3500 compressor if I had to buy a new one. Lots of stuff may work for you and your budget but any compressor you rebuild will give you something to be proud of and will help you keep up on the maintenance. Just my two cents.
