Got myself a (almost never) used IR2135qtimax.

It works great and I want to keep it working that way by doing the correct maintenance.

Little to no info found on internet, so hoping GJ can help me out.
I know I daily need to put a few drops of pneumatic oil in the air-inlet.
I use this:

But what about this ******:

I have the feeling it is for grease, but what kind of grease.
Is there a special grease for these air-guns, and what’s so special about that grease. Apply grease every week or month or is the factory supplied grease good for the rest of it's life?
Any thoughts?

1. lube with air tool oil every 8 hours of use.

2. lube grease inlet every 48 hours of use

the above maintenance intervals are in the user manual.

Grease and lubrication oil are listed in the parts list:

* Grease (replacement tube for -LBK1) 115-4T
* Air Tool Oil (4 oz. bottle) 10Z4

* Grease (8 lb can) 105-8LB
* Grease Gun R000A2-228

I would recommend getting a protective boot for your gun; while not necessary, it will protect the gun case and you will feel more comfortable setting your new gun on the ground, without fear of damage or scratching it up! :)

Alot of air tools have that fitting. At work we have an ir 2135qtimax that everyone shares. I am the only one that oils it and puts grease in. Every few weeks I take it and add a couple squirts of grease.

OP I recommend getting the boot. I use mine in my driveway alot as a weekend mechanic and I end up laying mine on the ground all the time. Also if I drop it it seems like it would add a little protection. IMO for the price they should come with the boot but oh well. They are a paint to put on I think I had to put mine in boiling water to soften it up enough to get it on.

My IR 2132 - which I really like - quit working last week.

The air seems to go right through it without turning the motor.

It seems like something is wrong with the plastic switch that directs the air to either the forward side or reverse side.

Anybody know what I need to fix it?

This used to happen at work a good bit. The insides would get "gummed up" and we would have to degrease and put them back together. Add a bit of air tool oil and they were good as new. The guys were hard on them and they got dirty fast being around a lot of coal dust.

Thanks all for your quick reply. Especially Billymade for your comprehensive summery.
I will buy the lube kit and will lube as mentioned - oil every 8 hours and grease every 48 hours.

I also like the idea of the protective boot. For only $14 I sure want to have one.

Once again, thanks guys, you are great :bow:

With mine, I skipped buying the lube kit. Take the four screws out of the back, and the hammer case comes right off. Everything just about falls out, and then you can clean all the dirt out of there, before adding new grease. Just take everything apart and clean on a shop rag. The grease everything, put it back together, and run it for another few years.

40 hours of trigger time is a LONG interval between greasings.

Indy, we used to have one guy that only worked on repairing our air tools. Glover developed his own recipe for solving your problem, assuming something wasn't broken. He used about 1 part auto trans fluid, 3 parts kerosene (or fuel oil/diesel). Pour some in the line and blow it through the tool. We had some tools that required a torque specification. When they dropped below being able to do that, a good douch and they performed again. Only the worst would "blow through" as you describe. Usually it is a stuck vane(s).

All these impacts are really all the same. Four screws on the back takes everything apart except the valves.

On a SnapOn, the back cover comes off, then the air motor falls out, then the impact comes out.
On an IR, the impact housing splits from the motor housing, and each part falls out of the housing.

Take out all the parts, remember where they came from, clean, lubricate, put back together. That is ALWAYS better than just blowing a solvent through the tool, although that method may sometimes work too.
