I got one of the older compisites when they first came out, grewat gun, I've had it for about 9 years i'd say, and never once let me down, then i sold a car on ebay and when the guy came and got it , he hande d me a new 2132g new in the box , didn't work very good so i really didn't care for it, untill on day i changed the crappy QD on my airhose and i noticed that all my other stuff worked alot better, So i tested the new one again and it worked great...and its super quiet, looks to have steel wool in the exhaust..lol

I found a IR2315TI that has only been used once & is 6 months old locally for $150.

I also found a IR231c for sale for $50 with three weeks of use on it.

Hmm decisions, decisions.

What do you guys think?

The IR231C is a great gun, tried/true design, not particularly **** or light but a great tool! If you are using it all day long for work; a lighter composite body design; might, be the way to go! Its amazing how heavy tools get when you use them all day long! :(

I'm just a weekend warrior. I don't have problems with heavy tools. But I do get annoyed when I have to break out the torch and **** around with a bolt for half an hour or so.

In that case; as long as the tool is operating properly and isn't worn out; I recommend the 231 without any reservations; however, it would be nice to get one of the later revisions. A tech at my brothers shop; uses one he has had (according to him), over 20 years and never had it rebuilt, it still works like a bull! What do you have to lose? At $50, if you hate it; you could sell it on ebay and you might even make a couple of bucks! :)

The new 231's are now called classic by IR but the problem is they were made in Athens, Pa. but now are made in China, unsure of the change as to quailty.

The guy with the 231 bought it in 2005. Would that still make it a made in USA version?

I just bought one off Amazon tonight for $99.23, including shipping. It shows it as $110.26 on the website but they gave me an additional $11.03 off at checkout.
