Gave me no issues till after this winter. When I hook it up to air it goes full throttle automatically without touching trigger. Nothing seems to phase it either

Anyone experience this or know what it could be?

Should I expect a overhaul? And is this something I can do myself?

Never had any air tools apart but I am a collision tech by trade so I am somewhat mechanically inclined

Yes I oil my stuff like crazy. Everytime I pick an air tool up for the day I drop a few drops in it.

Not sure about the guy before me although. Garage sale purchase and this is my impact for at home

Sounds like the plunger pin that opens the valve may have corroded or the spring that closes the valve is broken. Pull the inlet out and you can access these items to see what the issue is.

Rubber o ring in the trigger is bad, remove the big nut at the base of the handle & slide it out. EZ fix. Sometimes the spring will rust out & break too.

Most likely air bypassing the trigger seat/seal. Pull the air inlet assembly out and inspect all the seal.
