Hi,

I have a vintage wrought iron fence I've put up. The village wants me to do something for the pointy tops...there's a chance the village might let me slide but for liability reasons (aka stupid drunks walking out of the bar across the street), I should probably top them regardless...

Anyway...I've been able to find finials to top them, but I'd rather just have a small ball on top...probably is I can't find what I'm looking for...

The diameter I'm not too picky about but I need it to have a 5/8" square hole part of the way through. All I can find is either solid/hollow spheres or spheres with a square hole all the way through...

example of something not quite right on page 209 (211 in the index)...

Anyone be able to help me out in my search?

Thanks!
Patrick

How many do you need?

King Metals is a good outfit.

But to keep them honest I would talk to a local foundry.
You are describing a pretty easy casting job and in today’s economy they may be interested in a one off job.

BTW, a tennis ball sized top would make jumping the fence pretty easy.

I did try King Metals...didn't have what I was looking for...had the forged steel balls at over $4 a pop...had cast spheres that where either solid or hole all the way through... but I can't cut out a square hole...

I know I'm being picky...

Had this issue at a school in Jersey I worked at. In the end we took a saw to the tops of the fence pointy things and squared them off. problem solved city and insurance (FM Global) liked it..

Your Facebook link isn't working for me.

In any case, King is the place. Are you looking for finials with a ball protecting the spear tip? That's what you showed in your picture and they'll be less than a buck a pop at King. I paid .38/ea when I did my fence. 5/8 square -- just like you showed in your Decorative Iron link. Have you looked at the King catalog? Their website is a pain to navigate.

Thanks! That was my first welding project. I had no idea what I was getting myself into -- the thing has thousands of individual welds.

Tripple S steel has several options in their catalog locations in Texas and Knoxville Tn. They are very easy to work with on any orders I have done with them.
