Northern Tool has an Ironton battery/carbon pile tester currently on sale - see link below. I'm not familiar with the Ironton brand or this piece of equipment. This would be for my home shop to maintain the family fleet only. What can you guys advise? Is this a POS or a reasonable purchase for the intended use. Can you recommend an alternative piece of equipment that is superior in a similar price range?

Looks like the same one that HF sells I have one of the HF testers. Pretty sure the HF is a little cheaper. Plus it comes in a super blue color.

I have an Associated (USA made) unit that I got off Ebay a few years back for about $27. I used it recently, worked fine.

GM recommends a Midtronics tester, but it's big bucks. LOL.

I'd agree, other than the color that looks like the HF unit, paid about $35 for mine and it did the job.
