A while back, around Black Friday, there was a discussion on here about Irwin's adjustable pliers and how the newer models were different than the old ones.

I'm giving the new pair of pliers I picked up to my BIL, and put together a quick comparison while the pliers are still in my possession.

I put up a blog post comparing the two GrooveLock pliers, and there's a quick video if you're interested.

Main differences:

Old model has an offset 3-piece construction, the new model has a straighter 2-piece construction. Old model has short and poorly grooved front gripping area, new model has longer and deeper frontal grip area.

For the same $$, I'd buy the newer ones over the originals, they just feel a bit more robust and I'm a fan of the improved front grip area.
