Thanks, I picked up another pair for my brother.

I've had a pair for awhile now and love them. They work great for 10-20 gauge wire imo. Anything smaller and it tends to not work welll and bigger is just to big for it. But for the 14 and 18 gauge I've been using in my truck they have been amazing!

I saw this elsewhere and bought one immediately. I already have one but this is BY FAR the best wire stripper I've ever had. I honestly think it's a good deal at $20, it's a steal at $12(including tax). The only complaint about it is that the crimper doesn't work all that well for smaller terminals but that's a minor complaint.

BTW top tip; if you're not using the wire stopper, rotate it down...this helps with the wire insulation from staying in the jaws.

Would have bought at $13.50

Now $19.** from Amazon, which is what the 20% promotion applies to.

I use wire strippers almost every day.. but the same cheap ones I have will yank a wire clean enough to do the job. There is only soo much value in a new set, especially with the crappy foam grips.

Keep checking, it did that to me earlier, then 5 min later was back to 13 bucks.

Nope, sold by Amazon LLC.

Edit, mine was for the 14 plus coupon, not 13 something.

I have an Irwin and the Gardner Bender version of this. The cutting/crimping feature isn't very good, but these are excellent strippers. It's the best thing I've found for stripping insulation mid wire to make a soldered splice in an automotive harness.

I really don't need more than one in the garage and one in the basement, but for the price it's tempting to pick up as a gift for someone.

Are you seeing the OP's price, or $19.98?

Thanks OP! Ordered a set earlier, never have used this style before so we'll give them a try at that price.

You're going to wonder how you ever lived without them! This is the first self-adjusting wire stripped I've had that never fails. At worse, on some insulation(like heavy duty coaxial cable), you have to rotate the wire 45 degrees and re-squeeze. I tried using my old self-adjusting(the red/black from China that everyone has) on that same wire and they bent.

For anyone still interested, they're marked as $14.49 on Walmart.com with free in-store pick up. A little cheaper than the $15.98 (20% included) of Amazon.

Honestly I think they're the same thing. Irwin only has one model on their website and looking at the weight/dimensions they seem rather similar. Model numbers are the same as well.

Amazon:
Product Dimensions: 2 x 4 x 11 inches
Shipping Weight: 10.4 ounces
Model: 2078300

Wal-Mart:
Shipping Weight (in pounds): 0.75
Product in Inches (L x W x H): 10.8 x 3.5 x 0.9
Model: 2078300

Hmmz. Well, I'm disappointed.

I received my strippers Sunday afternoon (Amazon USPS Sunday delivery). I unpacked them and tried them out this evening.

No workie.

The mechanism tracks and does the grab and pull, but it just doesn't grip the wire. I squeezed fast, slow, medium, whatever. I tried to strip about six different sizes/types of wires. I must have squeezed them 100 times and they worked exactly once - on a piece of romex.

:(

There is a dial knob on the front of the head that adjusts the pressure that is put on the wire. Make sure the knob is tightened all the way. I didn't realize the knob was there until a friend pointed it out.

I think you may have a pair that is in need of replacement. These are supposed to work first time on nearly any wire, fast or slow, they just work. These aren't like the old-style of automatic wire strippers where there was a trick to it, this is squeeze any way you want and it does the work. This is my second one and I've stripped several different sized wires with different insulation and all have worked. The only one that gave it a little trouble was a heavy duty coaxial cable that I had to squeeze twice. It's from Amazon, get a replacement. :)
