Irwin Self Feed bits for big holes

A while back, Lowes closed out their display model Dewalt DWD460 for $115 (Normally $330+, yes, the only "you ****" moment I've ever had). I bought it, of course using my 10% Lowes coupon, but haven't really had a chance to use it until today. My 36v drill is my go-to for any holes.

Before, I was using the Bosch DareDevil bits up to about 1.5", and hole saws above that. I had to drill a 2" hole through a 12" deep oak beam to put in a missing drain vent, so I ended up buying the Irwin 2.125" Self Feed bit and an extension. It looks like a giant foresner bit, but it has a self feed screw.

I must say, the combination of the two is amazing. If you have a drill capable, I highly recommend the bits instead of your hole saws. It made a much cleaner cut and was at least 20 times faster than a hole saw, and I have 100-year-old studs/lumber to deal with that's always a pain. It cut it like butter.

The drill is pretty cool too, with the big handle coming out one side it's easy to resist kick-back, though it advertises that it stops when it senses the drill body is rotating. Great buy - I don't use it enough to justify $330, but for $100 I'm sure happy with the purchase

That was a sweet deal. I need a drill like that. I ended up borrowing a right angle drill from my BIL. I could not swallow spending $300 on a grill I will probably never use again.

I have been running my electrical and drilling the holes with a spade bit was killing me. I discovered the Irwin bits that cut through nails and this bit is a dream compared to what I had.

Electrical content to the rescue! I use a set of self feed Irwin 5/8, 3/4 and 1" for running wires in the shop. 100x quicker than trying to use a spade bit. They eat through a double top plate real quick.
